Krispy Kreme is a relatively small doughnut seller. It has only 295 stores while Dunkin Donuts has over 3,600 outlets in the United States and Canada. In spite of its size, Krispy Kreme has been described by many as “the hottest brand in America.” The company’s success in an environment which has made success difficult for many food operations is due in large part to the long-term vision of its top management and its establishment and achievement of S.M.A.R.T. goals. The company originated in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in the mid-1930s when Vernon Rudolph bought a secret recipe for yeast doughnuts from a French pastry cook. Rudolph ran the company until he died in 1973 without naming a successor, which caused the company problems for the next decade.…

@Boooo - What if you learned that Dunkin Donuts is not really a “chain” of restaurants, as you assumed, but a franchise. (Do you know the difference?) What if you learned Dunkin’ only does business through its franchisees? What if you learned the franchise owners are local people like you and me that realize that some people - maybe not you - like to do business with familiar brands that offer consistent quality. (Or maybe those people just like the nostalgia of getting the same donut their parents used to treat them to when they were 8.) What if you learned that the franchise owners use local insurance agents, employ local accountants and bookkeepers, bank at community banks, and use local architects, contractors and sign makers in their buildout? What if you learned these local owners give back to the community by advertising in local high school football programs and providing thousands of baked goods at local charitable events such as the Women’s 4 Miler? What if you learned that at their grand opening today, the owners asked for donations to a local school for autistic children in exchange for a travel cup that will provide the donor free coffee on Mondays for the next 15 months?…

    Dunkin Donut Analysis

From my simple analysis I can sum that Dunkin Donuts is lack of customer’s interest right now, because we don’t do many creative innovation. If only we be creative with creating new style, flavour of their donuts, their sales might increase, because I see that DD style is all the same, that is round, and it’s topping is ceres, whether it’s black, or colorful it doesn’t change. Indonesian people sometimes only look the outside (packaging), so we have to be creative even more, like making a gingerbread style donut when it’s near christmas, or even make a heart shaped donut near a valentine’s day event. As for the flavor, they have to do STEEPLE analysis, especially in social and cultural. Back then, we could outstand in Indonesian people’s tongue, because they have never tasted this kind of thing before. But now, Indonesian culture has changed. Our culture is contaminated by western culture, whereas western culture prefer soft, creamy, and moisty one rather than big, chunky, but a little bit hard. Or we can regain ex-customers interest by making their donut looks like batik, which is indonesia’s most prized possession.…

-Dunkin’s target market are the customers who wants America’s favorite everyday, all-day stop for coffee and baked goods. There primary target markets are the people who enjoy a great cup of coffee. Dunkin’ Donuts is still using the original proprietary coffee blend recipe established by its founder. With coffee leading the charge, beverages accounted for nearly 60 percent of Dunkin’ Donuts’ 2008 U.S. sales. The remaining 40 percent of sales are bakery items such as donuts, bagels, muffins, as well as new Oven-Toasted products, including hash browns and new Flatbread sandwiches. Founded first as a restaurant called Open Kettle, it was later renamed to Dunkin Donuts in 1950 by William Rosenberg and Stephen So in Quincy, Massachusetts. Dunkin Donuts has become most famous for its donuts over the years, as well as their coffee. They have approximately 3,000 restaurants in the US and around the world, and sell 2.5 million donuts every day. Dunkin Donuts has evolved into one of Forbes magazine “Top 10 Global Fast-Food Chains”, and tops the lists of other noted industry websites and magazines. Recently, Dunkin Donuts has changed the way they want customers to think about them by incorporating the tag line “America Runs On Dunkin”, and adding new menu items, to their marketing strategy. This tag line was introduced to focus on their coffee being a cheaper, down home alternative to the more expensive competitor, Starbucks. This tagline focuses on the fact that Dunkin Donuts is a broader “beverage company” and gains most of it’s profits from beverages.…

First getting its corporate bearings on July 13, 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have seen the many stages of financial gain and loss. Through the 1930’s and 1940’s the company saw regional growth and by the late 1950’s Krispy Kreme had opened 29 shops in 12 states. 1960 marked an era where management Vernon Rudolph and Mike Harding began to emphasize corporate standardization through its brand image. All Krispy Kreme shops were made with a green roof, a red-glazed brick exterior, a viewing window inside, an overhead conveyer for doughnut production, and bar stools. Original owner Vernon Rudolph in 1973, so Harding continued the growth and under their management the company’s revenues grew from more than $1 million in 1954 to $58 in 1974. Two years later, Beatrice Foods bought Krispy Kreme and tried to make some changes to the brand image and doughnut recipe. After seeing how the changes negatively affected sales, the owners changed the lettering and recipe back to the originals. A group of franchisees bought out the company in 1982 and due to double-digit interest rates no expansion was made. Eventually, corporate revenues grew steadily to $117 million 1989 and then edged off for six years.…
