Persuasive Statement
As I began typing this essay, I brainstormed ideas, supporting details, and even multiple theses. You see, I’ve never been a big fan of outlines nor have I put any time in those bubble map-like things. Some of the smartest people in the world claim their best ideas come while sitting on the porcelain throne. However, the only time I found fit to write life changing essays seemed to be in 3:26 AM on November 28th in my underwear, only my underwear. Amidst all the anxiety, I am able to produce my masterpiece. First and foremost, I live a very fortunate life. Although my family remains middle-class—we’re hoping to change that—we’ve never been a victim of a devastating tragedy, nor have I ever slept on an empty stomach. My parents are not divorced, my sexuality isn’t questioned, and my birth place is in America. So any heartwarming story about a triumphant over an overwhelming obstacle won’t be seen in this essay. However, all my friends seem to have heartwarming stories of triumphant over a great obstacle—you might have read their essay by now. This didn’t make sense to me because Ian didn’t seem so proficient on the piano nor did he seem so acquainted with the eastern culture. In fact, the only thing that he and I ever did was play the online game known as League of Legends. It’s not hard to see what I’m hinting at. Most of the worlds we applicants come from are not real. Who can blame them though? Tom’s one year in the music industry seems much more appealing in college’s eyes than his 12 years of skateboarding. I play League of Legends for fun. Don’t throw away my essay yet! Although I can create a fake piece of writing that exemplifies my love for music or culture, I chose to risk my entire application talking about the exact thing you do not want to read about. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, as fun as it may seem, is not my cup of tea. League of Legends currently captivates 32million gamers online; making it the most played online video game as of 2013. As

    3. A report from Alberta’s Workplace Health and Safety confirms the death of a young landscaper working for the city of Edmonton, was caused by a distracted driver who never seemed to realize she had hit him. Some said the woman was holding a cell phone and seemed to be texting before getting out of her car. “The driver did not even know that she had crushed a landscape worker. There…

“In July 2003, about 680 alleged Taliban members and suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists from 42 different countries were incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay. On July 23, 2003, U.S. Major General Geoffrey Miller said that three-quarters of the roughly 660 detainees had confessed to some involvement in terrorism. Many have informed about friends and colleagues”. For the unknowing, “Guantanamo Bay detainment camp serves as a joint military prison and interrogation camp under the leadership of Joint Task Force Guantanamo (also known as GTMO) and has occupied a portion of the United States Navy's base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba since 2002. The prison holds people suspected by the executive branch of the U.S. government of being al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives, as well as those no longer considered suspects who are being held pending relocation elsewhere”. Guantanamo Bay has received a large deal of criticism from law and human rights advocates alike. Law advocates believe the prisoners have not been afforded the rights of due process. They believe they are being held illegally and at a minimum, should be afforded the right to a trial. Human rights advocates believe the prisoners have been mistreated and tortured and that these misfortunes have led to several hunger strikes and suicides within the prison.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…

Sweat slowly trickled down the side of my face. Every second brought a sharp “tick!” from the clock; every second caused my stomach to sink lower and lower. I started to feel the pressure increasing second by second as time crept closer and closer to the deadline. Hastily, I wrote my introduction like it was nothing; a simple four sentence introductory paragraph. Words were flying through my head, channeling all the way down to my fingers. Abruptly, I looked at the clock and it was already 11:31 PM. I told myself, “I can do this. It’s a lot easier than I thought!”. I felt the adrenaline rush kick in as I started to write my body paragraph. I craved the euphoria that I felt as I wrote my essay; the pressure that overwhelmed me was simultaneously fuel to my mind.…
