SPEECOM PERSUASIVE SPEECH COMPREHENSIVE OUTLINE

Topic: To Work Abroad or Not

Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that within our respective distant future, we should stay within our country, work here, and not elsewhere

Thesis Statement: As the future hope of our country, we should not aspire to work abroad.

I. Introduction

A. Attention Material/Credibility Material: Let us play with our imaginations & aspirations a little bit and assume that we’re 10 years older, already have graduated and have a job, then suddenly we receive an offer from an international company based on London to work for them there. If I were to ask you, would you take that offer? Don’t forget that question, and have your answers in mind for later.

B. Tie to the audience: As I stand right in front of you, let me tell you that I, along with my parents, have lived in a Middle Eastern country named Qatar for thirteen years. And when I went back here, together with my classmates who were all Filipinos, to study college, I was shocked with how different Philippines is in general. Now after having lived here for three years, it is not far fetched for me to say that our country in the foreseeable future needs us, which brings me to my thesis statement.

C. Thesis and Preview: As the future hope of our country, we should not aspire to work abroad. They say that working abroad is the key to a better future, but is it always the case? They say the remittances from the OFWs help our economy significantly, but is it only about the remittances? And can we also say that we are proud of us being Filipinos, of our country?

[Transition into the body of speech]: Those are the questions that we’ll try to shed some light as I point out the key points of my speech.

II. Body

A. People say that for us to progress in our respective lives, one of the best things to do is to work abroad. But that is not always the case. More often than not, people regress in doing so.

Did you know that roughly 26 million out of 317 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes? That’s a whopping 8% of the American population. Not to mention another 79 million people are characterized as being prediabetic. I just so happen to be one of those 79 million. Americans, as a whole, need to become proactive in the prevention and onset of diabetes. Especially if your overweight or have a family history of the disease.…

    a. Attention-getter: Being the bigger person over another one is always a great feeling, you feel the rush and power like you can rule the world. Push, shove, kick, punch, slap, tease that’s all the dominant person sees when they are having “FUN” with someone else. What does the weaker person see? What does he/she feel? I bet they don’t like the smell of urine on their face, I bet they don’t like the taste of blood. I bet they don’t like crying. All they see is how horrible their life is being the smaller person to someone else….basically they are in someone’s shadow and they hate how their life is ending up.…
