Persuasive Speech On Syrian Refugees In The United States

As college students, we would like to send our highest regards of appreciation towards you and the job you have done as our congresswomen. Our names are Antonio Lombardi, Kira Newsome, and Shadi Ahmed. We are three college students studying at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. we are writing you today to address the issue of Syrian refugees. Syria is the battleground of a devastating civil war. Since the start of the war the lives of over 470,000 people have been cut short due to the unrest. We write to you in seeking immediate and effective immigration reform. Due to rising acts of genocide caused by many radical political groups, most notably the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the United States has seen a tremendous influx in Syrian refugees. With the involvement of the Syrian government and Russian forces, innocent civilians are being put in the middle of it. We cannot just turn a blind eye to these people seeking refuge.

The thought that many of the refugees are radical terrorists are much far fetched. It’s imperative that there be an emphasis on who is being let into the United States; most refugees being women and young children. By denying these refugees asylum, America will be going against the very values it stands for. This great country was built by people leaving their home countries hoping to start a better life, for whatever reason it be. In addition, an extreme vetting system may be set in place for those who aren’t women or young children as well, as we can’t turn our backs on middle-aged men. We strongly urge you, Congresswoman Watson Coleman, to give much thought to this make your decision based on the values the United States of America was built and currently stands
