Persuasive Speech About Being A College Football

It’s a Tuesday afternoon, a beautiful summer day and I just got off of a nine-hour work shift. Most of my friends made plans to go and enjoy their spare time at the beach, but I have to spend my off time working out and preparing for the upcoming football season in the fall. Why would someone choose to work out and to spend his or her summer vacation preparing for something that is months away? I'll tell you why; it is for the love of the game. (Describe the love of the game) Being a college football player is a very privileged opportunity that only 6.7% of people participate in after high school (“Estimated … athletes”). Division III gives many high school players an opportunity to continue and play beyond high school. This requires one to commit their time not only in season, but a year-round commitment. It consumes a grueling amount of time that could be used for studying or recreational activities that are instead devoted to training for the sport. Coaches at the Division III level care just as much about your schoolwork just as much as your sport. In 1973-1992, UNLV basketball was at its best under the coach Jerry Tarkanian. Over his 19 years of coaching there he made four, final-four appearances and in 2013 was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (source). There are roughly thirteen to fifteen players on a Division I team, which would mean he roughly coached 266 players. Of the 266 he coached only one player, his son, graduated with a college degree. A Division III would be foolishly embarrassed and fired if he were to be that type of coach. Coaches often provide their players with academic support or study plans, checking in with professors regularly for attendance and progress
