Persuasive speech: animal testing
At first, thank you for the people who are here to listen to my speech. I’m honor to be here so that I can express my strong argument in this place. Before beginning my speech, I want to ask you a question. It’s a short question, but not simple. Please think carefully. Is there the most superior living species? I think most of you would be quite perplexed. Yes. You should be. As I said, it is not a simple question. But also, simultaneously, there is a one, 100% perfect answer. Although it’s very easy word, many people, especially scientists who are claiming that we should do the animal testing, are not saying this easy, obvious answer. The answer is NO. The reason why I started my speech like this, is, to warn the pro-animal testing scientists, about changing their entire thoughts about animal testing. You must know that animal testing is wrong. Why animal testing is wrong? If you are curious, please follow my speech.
The most big, obvious, indisputable reason, is, that the animal testing is morally wrong. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies. The Draize eye test, used by cosmetics companies to evaluate irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being incapacitated in stocks with their eyelids held open by clips, sometimes for multiple days, so they cannot blink away the products being tested. The commonly used lethal dose 50 test involves finding out which dose of a chemical will kill 50% of the animals being used in the experiment. The US Department of Agriculture reported in 2010 that about 1million animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,395 primates, about 6k

The living conditions of these animals are less than ideal. More than 95% of animals used in experiments are not protected by the Federal Animal Welfare Act (FAWA). A common procedure that these animals are subject to is the Draize eye test. This test is used to evaluate irritation due to cosmetics, shampoos etc. During this procedure, the test animal (most commonly a rabbit) is held in stocks and left with clips on their eyes to hold them open after the product has been dropped into their eyes. The animal is left like this for hours, even days to watch for irritation. These animals held in labs are subject to force feedings, force inhalations, food and water deprivation and prolonged physical restraints against their will.…

The first reason is that animal testing harms animals. For example, more than 100 million animals die every year due to chemical, drug, and food tests (Animal Testing 101). This is important information because that is a large amount of animals lost every year. Some of these things that people are testing animals on are not even necessary so animals could be dying for no good reason. Also, many animal tests are cruel procedures some include feeding dogs pesticides, forcing mice to inhale toxic fumes, and dripping corrosive liquid into rabbits’ eyes (Animal Testing 101). In addition, rabbit eyes are very sensitive and dripping chemicals in them can cause major damage and pain to the rabbit.…

When signing up to be an organ donor you usually think only your major organs will be used; however, something as small as a ligament of yours is used in popular surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. When someone tears their ACL they usually have a choice to have an autograft, or use one of their own ligaments, but they can also choose to have an allograft, or take a cadaver’s ligament to repair it. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages, but I personally think that the better option is the allograft because I think the advantages are better than using your own ligament from another part of your body. The advantages consist of faster operative time, less post-operative pain, and a faster recovery time.…

How would you feel getting chemicals dropped into your eyes and on your skin, being confined into a small cell waiting to be tortured? Now why is it fair to do this to animals? There are so many reasons why animals should not be used for scientific research. Animal testing is unethical, and completely immoral. Not to mention it is unnecessary and there are many newly developed options that avoid animal cruelty. Additionally, animal testing has been proven to be ineffective and inaccurate.…

Millions of animals are used every year for a wide variety of scientific and medical purposes. Some of this scientific research is to learn about and improve the welfare of animals, but most of the animal experiments are unfortunately conducted for human benefits. An estimated eight million animals are used in painful experiments, which can range from getting pricked with a needle to more severe experiments, and ten percent of these animals do not receive painkillers. Then after all of the pain that they had been put through, some of them are euthanized when scientists are no longer in need of experimenting on them. Animal rights advocates want government agencies to impose heavy restrictions on animal research, but their opposition of painful animal experimentation is matched by the growing concern that these restrictions would pose a threat to scientific progress. Although there has been scientific progress from this, animal testing is still cruel, immoral, and unnecessary because all animals, like humans, have value and are worthy of being treated with respect.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…
