French writer Guy de Maupassant would eat lunch at the Eiffel Tower’s restaurant out of pure necessity, because as he often remarked, “it’s the only place in Paris where I don’t have to see [the Eiffel Tower]” (Barthes 3). Wherever you are in Paris, whatever the weather, the Tower is always there; the only spot in Paris blind to the Tower is the Tower itself. The Eiffel Tower is constantly seeing all of Paris, and in return, being seen by all of Paris. Robert Delaunay’s piece “Champs de Mars: The Red Tower” (Figure 1.) was painted in celebration of the Eiffel Tower’s structure as an engineering and architectural miracle as well as a symbol of modernity in the nineteenth and twentieth…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Market Chocolates – like ice cream, toothpaste and milk powder – have universal appeal across all demographics and cultures. But unlike toothpaste and milk powder, chocolate is not considered an absolute necessity; nor is it endorsed by opinion leaders. In fact, dentists and nutritionists often ‘de-market’ the product – especially since it is perceived as being a product that is generally not suitable for children. Despite these constraints, the Western influence of chocolate as a snack, reward or gift has gained universal acceptance. The habit of chocolate being given as a gift between loved ones, friends and relatives is widespread – and in this respect, chocolate often triumphs over flowers as the gift of choice.…
