Persuasive letter
To Mr. Drew Magary:

Hello Mr. Magary, my name is Diamond Tanielu and I am writing in regards to your article “25 Least Influential People”. I understand your point of view you have of most of these people, but some of these public figures I feel can be pretty great role models. I would also like to mention how one of these 25 least influential people is in fact an insect.
I understand your perspective from reading this article because some of these figures just have bad publicity, but however do you like being a bully? I feel you are bullying so many public figures like Chris Culliver, Alex Rodriguez, The Cicadas, Jodi Arias and Ryan Reynolds. I would first like to say that The Cicadas are unfortunately not anywhere near human, which makes the title of your article partially inaccurate. I would also like to add, although Jodi Arias was declared guilty, I feel it was a bit mean to make a joke out of her religious beliefs. Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion but I feel her religion had nothing to do with her trial, so why bring it up and make it a joke?
I am also aware of our nation’s first amendment being freedom of speech, but in my opinion half of the inappropriate language you used wasn’t very necessary. I feel as if you only used such foul language for your own amusement instead of using it to show your readers your passion for this article. Also, in my opinion I feel it was very offensive of you to use that type of inappropriate language when referring to Prince George, because he is just an infant yet you pick on him? This inappropriate language offends me because I feel as if you’re using it as an excuse for a reason why these people aren’t “Influential” instead of giving legitimate reasons.
I honestly feel like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ryan Reynolds and other public figures you’ve chosen can be considered role models. I feel like Justin Bieber is considered a role model because he started off his career at a very young age. He

What’s harder is defining exactly why those people are so well-known. The celebrity today is more commonly famous solely for the sake of being famous, rather than for possessing any true talent. In an editorial cartoon from Investor’s Business Daily, this point is illustrated quite bluntly. In the image, a young, pig-tailed girl sits at the base of an ancient Mayan temple, on a slab that reads “CELEBRITY WORSHIP.” She looks up at her mother and father, standing beside her, and expresses her desire to be “just like” a number of celebrities: the previously mentioned Paris, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Anna Nicole Smith. He parents, wearing traditional sacrificial headdresses and holding a skull-encrusted knife, reply to her, “Of course… after we remove your brain.” The caption of this cartoon is “The Human Sacrifice,” a blunt and fitting title. If the girl really were to have her “brain removed” and become as shallow and fame-seeking as the celebrities she mentions, it really would be the loss of a human life. The women she mentions as her role models are known prominently, or solely, for their scandalous lifestyles. It would be a waste of talent, the deprivation of a possibly great contribution to society if this child were to emulate the promiscuous, partying ways of these females she sees as ideal, that she finds ideal only because that…

This is Jack Merridew. It has been many years since we last saw each other, and so much has happened since then. I’m sure you’re a very different person now, as am I. I am not that same boy you knew, fifteen years can really change a person. Ten years ago, you sent me a letter blaming me for Simon and Piggy’s deaths, and everything else that happened on the island. I didn’t respond back then because I was in the Seminary and was trying to worship god and put all that happened on the island behind me. I’m writing you this letter now because I am about to become a priest and I feel that I need to clear things up as a last act before I start my new life. This way I can start out with a clean slate.…

It is ironic how people idolize celebrities just because they are sexy, rich or just because they are “amazing” at acting or singing. Now individuals are discrediting the real and valuable qualities of a person, it is why America will not longer have heroes. In the article “The End of Admiration the Media and the Loss of Heroes,” by Peter H. Gibbon, a senior research fellow at Boston University’s school of education, argues about the lack of notable people and the bad impact that media does today. In addition, Brad Zembic, the author of “Print Media and the Rabbit Hole,” addresses the loss of credibility and respect of some newspapers and magazines. Although some individuals think that famous people are heroes, society should know to classify a person as a “hero” because today people think that celebrities are heroes for what they do. A hero has the respect of others and is willing to give himself for people, qualities that a celebrity will not really have.…
