Persuasive Essay: Why Schools Should Get Out In May
Why we should get out in May
Have you ever thought that school seemed longer than usual? Well, that's because they are district adds snow days to our schedule and if we don’t get any snow days then we have to attend days they put on. If you let school out in may you wouldn’t have to pay the staff for the extra days, You wouldn’t have to pay a lot of those bills, and kids would be much happier. So, basically, we should be getting out earlier. And these are the reasons why I think Schools should start dismissing on may.
By not having to pay staff on may you would save so much money thinking about how much people you have to pay. If you take Huch. as an example they cut school a week early to save money. You would save money on buses because one bus takes like $50,000 just to run, which is a lot of money. Think how much it costs just to pay for the staff here, you would save so much money by letting us out earlier.

The water bill is probably a lot because of the water fountains, toilets, and sinks and we use all of them probably more than we should. Also, heating up the school has to take up a lot of money; think about how big the school is and how much it has to heat up school’s probably leave it on overnight. Finally, cooling the school is just like heating, it so it is somewhere close to the same cost unless you’re in winter than probably more heating, and same with the summer but more

A reduction in school financial cost may be a great factor considered when moving to a four-day school week. Transportation costs are reduced, as well as utility costs to the school. It would save a lot of money, especially in rural districts. Money would also be saved by the reduction in use of electricity and by not paying the employees for the fifth day of the week. Researchers report that districts implementing a four-day week have found savings on utilities, school buses, cafeteria programs, long-term building wear and tear, as well as, the pay for substitute teachers. In their evaluation of the implementation of a four-day week in Webster County, KY, Yarbrough and Gilman report savings amounting to two percent of the school system’s budget.…

Have you ever woken up feeling groggy and not wanting to go to school or do anything at all? As a result, many students go to school late or do not academically progress and participate in class. According to the Scholastic Scope article “Should School Start Later?” by Justin O’Neil and the article “Sleepy Teens: High School Should Start Later in the Morning” by Mark Fischetti, many schools are considering starting school later to help students succeed academically. Students have more trouble concentrating in class because they are not getting enough sleep. Some students arrive at school later because they oversleep. The three month summer vacation between school years that students have become so fond of, was originally created to allow students to help with the harvesting of that year’s crops. However, the harvest season no longer interferes with education as the massive increase of urbanization and various technological advances have eased the workload of farming families. As a result, there is now a major need to transition from a traditional school setup to a more effective system of education. As of now, more than 90% of America’s states have implemented at least one year round school system (Nat'l Ass'n, “Year-Round Schooling, Calendar Reform Statistics: Schools, Districts”). Year round schools, although they may decrease some the benefits that come with summer break,…

It is very hard to wake up in the morning for some students because of the night before they might have had to do homework or get caught up doing errands and they seem to go to sleep late and they don’t get much hours of sleep. Over 20% of Americans suffer from sleep loss and more than 1,500 deaths a year are caused by drivers that have fallen asleep at the wheel. One way these two frightening statistics could be lowered is by simply changing school start times. Students need more sleep than what they are getting due to early school start times, which is getting sleepy drivers on the road. School start times should be later than they are now because middle school and high school students are “programmed” to sleep in, sleep improves grades and it also improves physical health.…

For this debate I am debating why school time should stay the same. J.C.M.S middle school in Sierra Vista has a delayed start time of 9:00 a.m., and finish school at 4:00 p.m. This affects the children who are involved if afternoon sports, most time not getting out until 6:00 p.m sometimes later. If you have homework that same night after spending two hours doing a sport you might procrastinate and not do your homework at all or you will be tired and end up making mistakes that should not have been made. An earlier start time ensures an earlier release time letting sports start earlier and homework being done at an earlier time while not as exhausted from the day.…

As modern society advances at astonishing rates, it is a common occurrence that many mandated policies are rarely reviewed, and often become outdated. One of the best instances of this could be depicted by the modern school year. The school year was optimized for a different time, and as such, needs to be changed. The change to an all year school would allow for improved learning, greater knowledge, and an increased number of breaks throughout the school year. The need for change in the school calendar is very crucial, and be beneficial for multiple purposes.…
