Persuasive Essay Why Do People Smoke
The Center for disease Control reports that cigarette smoke causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is about one in five deaths. The center adds that smoking causes more deaths every year than Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, and firearm- related incidents. With this being a known fact there are still smokers in today’s world. The question that should be asked is why do people smoke cigarettes despite their proven dangers? Smoking cannot only damage or bring harm to every organ in the human body, but it can cause countless diseases. If people just stopped smoking altogether, they would decrease the risk of smoke-related diseases and most importantly …show more content…
Smoking can cause lung disease to spread by damaging a person’s small air sacs, which are the alveoli that are found throughout the lungs. This happens because smoking destroys cilia, the dirt and pollution stays in your lungs, along with chemicals from cigarette smoke. Smoking can cause many other cancerous diseases just about anywhere in a person’s body. Most people think that it could just be in a person’s lungs, but cancer can form anywhere when smoking is involved. Poisons in cigarette smoke can weaken the body’s immune system, making it harder to kill cancer cells. When this occurs, cancer cells keep growing without being stopped. in a person’s bladder, cervix, colon and rectum, liver, pancreas, and stomach. Overall smoking is not healthy for the body. By a person taking that risk and smoking, a cigarette it is crippling their health. The consequences that go along with smoking are drastic enough; disease, heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, and cancer. People should just do themselves a favor and stop smoking so that they will have longevity in the life. Hopefully the people of today will wise up and realize that they have to help themselves by living a healthier life and putting the cigarette
