Persuasive Essay On The Sidewalks

Spring Lake Heights is a great town to live in. It is small enough to be able to ride your bike or walk from one end of town to the other. You can see kids of all ages roaming about town together. Whether they are riding their bikes to the Little League Field, or walking to Benny’s Pizza, it seems like it’s a very pedestrian friendly town, or is it? Upon closer inspection, you can see there is an issue with the sidewalks. If I were able to change something in the town, it would be to improve the sidewalks. FIrst, in some places in the town, sidewalks do not even exist. For example, the western side of Ocean Road, just past the tennis courts the sidewalks just stop on one side. This is not safe because kids on foot, or on bikes are now forced to walk in the road. If they are on the left side of the road, they are now walking into oncoming traffic. In addition, many of the sideroads do not have sidewalks. My grandmother lives on Lake Avenue, in an area where there are many children, and the children are often seen riding their bikes in the street which can be very dangerous, not always in single file. If there were sidewalks, the children would not only be kept out of the street and the width of the sidewalk would force them to ride single file.
This is a safety hazard, not only for people on bicycles, but for people walking as well. In addition, if someone if pushing a baby carriage, the wheels could get caught and tip over. It is also especially dangerous and not conducive for people riding skateboards. So you can see, although Spring Lake Heights seems to be a pedestrian friendly town, but my adding additional sidewalks and improving the one's that already exists, we can make the town even more pedestrian
