Persuasive Essay On Organic Food
Can we switch to organic food? Organic food is somewhat controversial. Going organic

may seem great for ethical and health reasons, but there is more to it than that. Organic isn’t a good

choice for everyone. Organic foods do have cons. Focus should be taken off of organic food and

more on our farming practices.

Organic foods are viewed as super healthy and in general superior to other foods, yet if that

is true then why aren’t grocery stores just selling organic food? Organic food isn’t the first choice

for many simply because of its price. Organic food is usually more expensive than regular food.

People also have limited options on where to buy organic food. You can buy organic foods at most

major grocery stores, but there

are also in the food grown and consumed. We grow our food this way because it makes food more

easy to mass produce. With the world’s population increasing it may seem like this is our only

option to feed people.

It is true that using nonorganic farming methods makes food in larger quantities, and more

uniform, that doesn’t mean though that we can’t feed the world with organic food. Organic farming

practices are better for the environment, and sustainable. When we grow foods organically then

soils won’t degrade and chemicals won’t wash up into our water supplies. If growing food

organically becomes commonplace then so will buying organic foods, because the price for them

will be cheaper.

It would be a hard switch though because the way we grow food now works in some ways.

Growing food nonorganic is not the way to grow food forever though and its effects will eventually

catch up to us. As far as eating nonorganic food goes it is just as nutritional as nonorganic food.

Organic food wont win if it is just looked at as a healthier option because it really isn’t. Organic

food will win when our farming methods change and it becomes

Anyone who shops for groceries has to make decisions on what food to buy and they usually do not think about where the food is coming from. When it comes to healthier food choices, most of the time these are being shipped from a farm. However, not all farming can benefit the consumer purchasing their products. One of the biggest debates is on modern farming and the usage of things such as chemicals and hormones to produce quality agriculture and crops. Many are concerned of how these treatments may affect their health. A solution to this issue would be for farms to switch over to organic farming. Organic farming is focused on using natural methods for fertilizer and pesticides, soil regeneration, water conservation, animal welfare, and farming in an environmentally and socially responsible way. In his essay “The Organic Fable,” Roger Cohen argues that there is little to no difference between organic foods and regular foods. He says, “Organic has long since become an ideology,” says it is branding, not science, and says we need genetically modified food anyway to feed more people. He also says it is an, “obsession of an upper middle class,” and compares buying organic foods to, “paying to send your kids to private school.” I believe, though, that his argument is biased and inconsistent, because of his existing dislike for organic foods and his praising of organic foods at times in his essay.…

Logic: The producers of non-organic food argue that the organic label is a marketing tool. It is not a statement about food safety. Nor is “organic” a value judgment about nutrition or quality. Organic is how it is produced. Just because something is labeled organic does not mean it is superior, safer, or more healthy than conventional foods. All foods in this country must meet the same high standards of safety regardless of their classification…

That’s why, ladies and gentlemen, I’m very happy to share this idea of the modern shopper’s first choice of shopping, with you.
