What is the number one reason that parents worry about their children in schools? The reason is the increased numbers of school shootings across the United States. The school shootings happen almost twice a week during last year which often end with the killer shoot and kill about a dozen of school students before the shooter were killed by the police's lethal force. The result can be damage families, community, and friends. In order to stop the school shootings in the USA, the school system must increase their security, arming the teachers with handguns or a shotgun, and install more cameras. According to Elliot, “For the 2010-2011 school year, public schools report 31 school-associated violent deaths." '' Eleven of these reported deaths were homicides of children ages 5–18 on school grounds.''(Elliot 530). There are many ways that the shooter can sneak their firearm to school when it had a heavy presence of students. He or she can put their handgun in their pocket or carry a shotgun or assault rifle in a large coat. When the shooter walks into the school hallway, he or she will pull their weapon out of their hiding place and start to open fire on unexpected students and teachers. An increase numbers of school campus policemen or women can make an optional shooter think twice before attacking the school. The people who watch the cameras can alert the campus police that the active shooter had a gun and give his or her last location on the school campus. Arming teachers with guns can lead to a decrease in active shootings at school sufficiently.
