“ A leader is one who knows the way shows the way and leads the way”, De Vaca was one of a kind. He was a great leader that besides of just giving orders he enforced them and helped his men learn and do so in the process.It is not very often you come across a leader like him, who is successful and willing to help his people rather than just mistreat them to accomplish his goals.
De Vaca accomplished the impossible, he walked day and night along with his men all the way through America making it to Mexico. He discovered Mexico after eight years of suffering and walking from Florida all through America. His ships were wrecked thus ending in his men drifting apart, this happened more than once. In the end the only survivors were De Vaca and three of his men, with persistence and hard work they made it to Mexico. The characteristic I admire the most about De Vaca is that through though or good times he never gave up on his expedition and kept and optimistic view. How often do you find a man so determined to get what he wants he walks for eight years of his life , not knowing what was ahead of him everyday?
Our trading world has been changed thanks to De Vaca, he has developed a trading route between Europe and South America we still use today. De Vaca was kind to the Indians and with the help of his men he established a trade between him and the Indians that was the reason of their survival. He desperately needed food and shelter to survive , so the indians provided them those things in exchange for beads and belts. De Vaca brought to the indians things they had never seen before, technology that was only available in other parts of the world. Without De Vaca we would not have a trading route with Mexico and never have been introduced to all the marvelous foods and plants they have there. Think about it , if De Vaca never existed you guys would have never eaten a Taco.
