Persuasive Essay On Christian Persecution

Around the world people are being persecuted for their religion, specifically Christians. It is our responsibility to make sure that all religions are treated with respect. In the case of Christianity, documentation of the persecution has been kept to a minimum. The reports of the atrocities of the Jews during the Holocaust where horrifying indeed, but equally horrifying are the accounts of the slaughter of Christians in the first century A.D. The descriptions of the means of death and the torture many Christians endured in the early years of the Church would leave many uneasy to say the least. Killed, raped, and tortured for what they believed in, many Christians faced death sometimes willingly. Today, where someone lives is a major factor in the persecution of Christians. In the United States, a “nation under God,” many
Jesus Christ spoke of such persecution when describing what is going to happen during the end times. In Mark, Jesus is quoted saying, “You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues”(Mark 13:9). This could possibly be interpreted that Jesus is explaining how the government will begin to persecute Christians on a more outrageous level. The persecution of Christians by governments is not new and will continue to increase in years to come.

There is evidence that our government will perpetuate of increase its dragooning of Christians in the years to come. New laws are being put on the docket almost every day concerning the limiting of Christian rights in America. In a court ruling, an Oregon minister was denied unemployment after losing his job at a church. The government was not willing to supply unemployment compensation for the man because he was a minister. This is just a small example of laws that take away from Christian rights in this free country (Christian Legal Society par. 6).
