You sit at the dining room table doing homework while your mom turns on the TV and channel surfs until she finally gets to CNN. “What a shame,” your mother exclaims. You glance up towards the TV and see yet another face plastered all over the screen, another life lost at the hands of law enforcement. You check your twitter, and the top trending hashtag is #RIP(insert name here). For at most two weeks, this person is all everyone talks about, but after those two weeks, everyone goes on to live their lives again. It’s happened so much it’s almost become ingrained into society; it’s the American cycle. Excuses used to justify this person’s death range from “Well, they should’ve complied with the officer,” to “They were criminals, who cares?” Police brutality cases are on the rise. Although some argue that no problem with racial profiling exists, recent circumstances show otherwise. Black Lives Matter is, according to their website, a national organization for the validity of black life. Opponents of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, such as All Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter, are also gaining popularity. I agree, All Lives and Blue Lives, meaning police officers, matter. However, the problem with these groups is that by pushing the agenda of a post racial society, they are simultaneously draining out the voices of the oppressed. All Lives Matter supporters feel that by using the word black instead of all, the BLM group is implying that we should only focus on black lives.We cannot claim that All Lives Matter until we truly prove that Black Lives
