The Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is one of the happiest and most loyal dog breeds on the planet. They are affectionate and aim to please. Their nature is to be friendly and trusting and they expect the same in return when meeting new people or other dogs. When encountering a pooch that isn’t so nice, they will not interact. Rather, they will head in a direction away from that dog.
If you are considering bringing one of these wonderful animals into your family, you must consider the needs of the breed. A bored dog can be a destructive dog. Vigorous exercise is essential, both for the body and the mind. Born to run, an Aussie needs more than daily walks. They need a yard with enough room to get up some speed. Powerful hips and shoulders

They have a thick, wavy coat and, in some climates, will shed all year long. There is feathering on the legs which is more pronounced on the males. A natural docked tail is a common characteristic which breeders and judges agree should not be more than four inches long. Eye color can be brown or blue; it’s striking to see a dog with an eye of each color. Males can be as large as 75 pounds and females up to 55 pounds.
Miniature or toy Australian Shepherds have been bred in California since the 1960s and is evolving into a breed known as American Shepherds. They reach from ten to eighteen inches tall and weigh from seven to thirteen pounds. The mini-Aussie has the same temperament as its larger cousins – devoted, intelligent, spirited and affectionate – and the same needs.
An Australian Shepherd needs a purpose, whether that be nipping at the heels of sheep or protecting and loving a human friend. They crave human companionship. The effort necessary to give this dog happiness and fulfillment is a small price to pay for the pure pleasure of sharing your life and home with one of these delightful, beautiful
