Abortion: The One Kind of Murder the World Accepts In 1973, after the Roe versus Wade trial, abortion was legalized in America. Today in the state of Texas abortion is legal during the first trimester, or first thirteen weeks, of a pregnancy. An elective abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. An abortion does not exclude a person from being a parent: it only makes them the parent of a dead child in contrast to a living one. Although many people consider abortion as an appropriate choice in particular situations, abortion should be illegal because it is a form of genocide, adoption is a helpful and relevant alternative, and there are several ways to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Eventhough many people may consider abortion appropriate if the child is being brought into a harmful environment, abortion only makes the harmful situations worse on children who are alive. The National Center of Child Abuse and Neglect states the cases of child abuse have increased since abortion became legal. In 1983, 10 years after the legalization of abortion, the reported amount of child abuse cases increased more than five times the amount of cases before abortion was legal. Adoption should always be considered as a "thoroughy responsible, helpful-to-all alternative to abortion," (Balch & Gans). Abortion destroys the chances of a child to lead a healthy, happy life, where as adoption offers that gift. "In states where there is openness to adoption, abortion rates are lower," (Dailard & Pertman). With the choice of adoption, abortion does not have to be considered. There are a multitude of reasons for an unwanted child, but society should not give the chance to sentence an unborn child to death for its inconvenience. Adoption gives that child an oppurtuntiy to be cared for by a non nonbiological, but loving
