Students theses day have a lot going on in their lives. From sport to other extracurricular and also homework. When is it time to get a good night rest? Most student have to stay up late to do homework and sometimes don’t get to bed until one in the morning and have to get up around six for school. Some schools in the Pilot Grove area like Columbia school district have decided to change their school days to 9:10 AM to 4:30 PM days. One of the problems that I think our school of Pilot Grove has it starts too early in the day. Which leads kids to not getting enough sleep and which could also lead to more severe cases like health problems, school performances, and the students psychological state.

Most student who don’t get enough sleep end up being tried and can not take in all of the information that they need. According to Start School Later starting school later “Improved alertness, memory, attention, and cognitive processing skills.” Also it was also proven that school attendance went up. If school starts early it could help with the student safety. When I mean student safety safety from depression, anxiety and also suicidal thoughts. According to Suicidal Ideation and Complete Suicide “Adolescents who experience frequent nightmares and sleep less than 8 hours a night have been shown to be at higher risk for suicidal behavior.” I think that our school needs to change what time they start school because i think it would help with kids not being eager to learn and then we would have better test scores. Also if we started school later According to Mareesa Nicosia “Adolescents who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, use drugs and alcohol, perform poorly in school and suffer from depressive symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep.” I think our school lacks at letting kid get that 8.5 to 9.5 which is what we need to work

Sleep deprivation is a common struggle many adolescents confront daily in their lives. It is a chronic condition with severe negative consequences to the developing teenage body and its effects may be even more dire when combined with the stress of heavy schoolwork along with extracurricular activities. Professional doctors advise and recommend growing teenagers to sleep eight hours or more, however this proves to be rather very difficult with the interference of the standard school schedule starting early in the morning. Starting school at a later time may highly reduce the negative effects of sleep deprivation and possibly improve the conditions of students.…

In the article “Our kids need more sleep” Written by Valerie Erde, she makes many good points about why school should be set back to a later time. First is how it increases academic alertness and vigilance. Second, is how a later start time decreases depression in teens and decreases tardiness and decreases truancy. Last, is how this later start time is actually helping the students get better grades. I one hundred percent agree with this and believe these policies should definitely be implemented.…

Did you ever take the time to think about if schools started later and how it would affect the students? It would affect the students in a big way. Some students believe that we should start schools later because kids would get more sleep, would have better grades, and kids would miss fewer days of school. Some students claim that schools should not start later because teens could just go to bed early to get the sleep they need but it depends on when the teens go to bed and when they wake up.…

“42 states reported that most (75%-100%) public schools started before 8:30 a.m” (“Schools Start Too Early”). Most schools start before 8:30. A decent amount of schools start around 7:20. Schools start early in the day and release later in the afternoon. This has become routine, but studies show that students who start early in the day perform worse in school compared to those who start later in the day. Schools should implement a later start time for higher schoolers since high schoolers would get around the recommended amount of sleep, preventing sleeping in school and high schoolers academics and safety will increase, since they will get enough sleep to study before school and prevent drowsiness.…

Many teenagers around the world have difficulty with their internal sleep clock; this makes waking up early and going to school a difficult routine. By waking up this early, it allows teenagers to adapt to this routine and become used to it. I believe that school should not begin later in the day. If school started at a later hour and ended at a later hour, there would be no time for sports practice and competitions, the teachers' time, and by waking up at such an early time, it prepares you for possible job opportunities when you graduate from school. Having that extra time for sleep would be a wonderful opportunity, but there are many things you have to consider giving up as well.…

Certainly it could be said that if school starts later, then it will end later; while this is a good point, it fails to account for the loss of sleep caused by early start times. The Scholastic Scope article explains “For one thing starting school late means dismissing school later, which leaves fewer daylight hours for after school activities like sports” (O’Neil 21). Although this is true, many students arrive at school later because they do not get enough sleep. While some might argue that starting school later means that districts will have to invest in busses and drivers, they forget that starting school later will help align school schedules with sleep schedules. For instance, the article explains “School bus schedules are arranged to meet the needs of not just one school but all schools in the district” (O’Neil 21). Even though there would need to be more buses to meet the needs for all schools, kids would be more alert in class. Some people may argue that starting school later brings the wrong message to kids. The Scholastic Scope article says “Being on time, managing a busy schedule, and getting enough sleep are important skills teens will need to know when they enter the workforce” (O’Neil 21). In contrast, starting school later would help kids stay physically and mentally healthy. Starting school later will help students academically succeed and stay mentally…

Parents think that it is horrifically challenging to move schedules up and back with the school districts. Why? Parents have busy schedules with work and have to change their work setting or call into their job and say that they are late. It is a very confusing aspect because students want to start later for the better benefit of them. On the other hand parents have to get to work early and make sure that there kids are at school at the same time. Parents seem to struggle abundantly when it comes to school starting later. Sometimes they have to call someone to take their kids because they have a different working schedule than their kids going to school. It is a very beneficial change that people in schools need to look into because students seem to like the idea of it. It benefits them on their sleep and the way the day…
