I believe that homework and grading are fundamental to advancing and preparing students with for the future. Homework should be an extension of what has been taught in class, and the amount of homework must remain age appropriate. I grade tests, and give feedback for tests and daily work. My homework and grading system is a positive experience for the students, and aids the student in knowing their progress at all times.

Kindergarten and first grade should be 20 minutes Monday thru Thursday, and there after add 10 minutes per grade. I begin typically begin it week three. Reading should be 20 minutes per night in addition to homework for elementary grades. Occasionally there might be extra due to absence, or incomplete work. Homework is not graded in grade book.
Daily work and tests are returned with feedback, but only tests and projects are entered into grade book. Student progress is monitored thru tests, daily assignments, and discussions. Students are evaluated on a 4 or 5 point scale, and a grade for effort is included. Students are given my scoring system on first day as grade appropriate. It is essential that students know at all times how they are doing.
I believe homework and grading are essential to preparing students for their future. Homework is should be home learning, and an expansion of concepts studied in class. All work sent home must be age appropriate, and younger grades should read 20 minutes. Students should always be given feedback on everything from class discussion to tests. Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

Graders and educators seem to emphasize assignments and grading for performance and understanding. The grading system basically labels a student’s image either being a smart/average/”dumb”. Knowing this will run very deep in how a child careers their self around school or when they have to do an assignment. The grading system makes the student more focused on what they can do to get the grade that is Above Standard than actually care about what they’re researching or learning about, this is assessing students and categorizing them basically in groups based on their knowledge and skill in the course. Teachers do try to motivate their students but it doesn’t always work and students begin to chase their grade and become disinterested in the course material. I saw a post the other day on why students cheat on exams to pass and the top reply was this “When students cheat on exams it’s because of our school system values grades more than students…

Homework is important because it helps the educators by applying the skills you learned in class at home. Some people say that homework is helpful for subject enhancement in students, however others may say homework is not very helpful and instead is a stressor for students. As a result, there is much debate on the topic of homework. Here at Culver City Middle School, there isn’t a homework policy, which leads to either too little homework or too much homework. This is a real problem since students are trying to advance and understand subjects. A new policy, should be created where there is need for meaningful homework as it will benefit many students in several ways.…

Homework doesn't take all day; realistically you will have time for other things. Homework allows practice for future endeavors, and teaches responsibility and organization skills. Homework allows children to work at their own pace, without peer pressure and afraid of falling behind during class. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work that you did in class. Reason being yes I understand that different classes have different papers and some have more worksheets than others but…

Some students don’t know what to do when the teacher assign their homework. They don’t know what to do because when the teachers assign them homework the night before to do, they spent all night doing it. Then the next day at school they are way too tired to process any work and lesson the teachers are teaching. They would just fall asleep and pay less attention. That causes the student to not know what to do and they just write down random answers. Then when they turn it in the teachers mark it wrong and give them a bad grade. Eventually with all these bad grades in their file it will bring their grades down a lot. This would just give more stress to the students and drain their energy. An average person should be getting about seven to eight hours of sleep a night not two or three…

Since Roberto Nevilis introduced it to the world as a punishment in 1905, there have been many arguments to whether or not homework should be required. What initially started as punishment for kids who messed around in class has become a mandatory task that all students are required to do daily. I’m here to end that, I intend to show you that students should not be required to complete homework for a grade. Homework consumes too much time and leaves no space for extracurricular activities and causes health problems. On top of that, many students don’t even have the resources required to complete the homework. Despite these things, homework is still a graded assignment that if failed to complete, can drastically bring down a student's grade.…

After a long day in school, two hours of swimming, and an hour of playing on an instrument, dinner time hits and we drown in homework. Seven hours of school alone is draining for a daily life of a student. On our way home we carry the weight of our backpacks as if we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders. Piling homework will only encourage students to put it off. All students procrastinate because they feel overwhelmed with the workload. It feels daunting to start work which is why homework can even lead to cheating which leads to poor study habits. Being prone to cheating and having an insufficient amount of study habits will only lead to a fixed mindset.…

Homework is an important part of the learning process in middle school. One reason is that homework gives students additional practice of skills covered in class. Middle school classes are too short to teach a new concept and practice it sufficiently for students to master. Students need both guided practice in class and independent practice at home. Another reason for homework is that it provides time to complete longer assignments. For example, the ideal composition process allows time for students to think and to reflect on their ideas, as well as time to revise and to proofread their writing. Also, reports and special projects often require research that can not always be done at school. In addition, since all students do not work at the same speed, giving students time at home to finish work keeps them from falling behind. Finally, the most important reason for homework is that it ensures review. New material and old material are practiced in daily assignments. Students who do their homework daily are prepared for tests and make better grades. In conclusion, not only is homework essential to mastering new skills and maintaining previously learned skills, but it also guarantees constant review and provides time for longer assignments, as well as additional time for students who need it. Students, do your daily homework, make better grades, and learn more!…

Billions of homework assignments are handed out each day. It’s become a part of our everyday lives. But, is it really all that great? A lot of people are debating on whether or not kids and teens ages 5-18 should be given homework. Some educators and schools worldwide have banned homework. I strongly believe that schools give too much homework and should be banned because less homework gives teachers more time to plan lessons, children need more time for other activities, and homework often has bad effect on students. First of all, less homework gives teachers more time to plan lessons. According to the Achieve 3000 article, “No More Homework?,” in paragraph 2, the author says, “If teachers did not have to mark homework, they would have more time to plan lessons and monitor students’ daily progress.” If teachers do not give homework, they would have more time on their hands to work on other things.…

Motivating students to learn is a concern for every educator. Each educator learns and uses different ways to motivate students to become more invested in their education. However, a majority of educators rarely take the time to research, or even look at others research that has been conducted in order to improve their own classrooms. Often we as educators make excuses and claim that the students are just lazy and that must be why they do not get motivated to complete their home work. So, what motivates those that do complete their homework? Is it our amazing lessons, activities and fun interactive homework assignments? In a world where many teachers jump on the band wagon of whatever programs their school district is sold on that year because that is what is expected by the administration, we need to look further to find ways to motivate our students. Not just because our students fear punishment or because they are socially expected to; but because they are intrinsically motivated to because they feel connected to and invested in the material.…
