Have you ever lived off check to check just to survive? Was there ever a situation where you couldn’t call a place home? Many people in my community are experiencing this currently. Day in and day out, there are people who can’t turn for help, there are people who can’t live in warmth and comfort. I believe the Federal Government should do more to help out the less fortunate. Homelessness is connected with poverty, lowering the number of poverty will also lower the rate of homelessness. There are currently more than 500,000 homeless people in the United States, and 15% of the population of 300 million fell below the poverty line. There are many local community members that create organizations to help out the less fortunate. The United States government also provides funding initiatives at the state level to help out community wise. There are people who struggle with poverty who take advantage of the financial aid system. There shouldn’t be any more spending until the government figures out who actually has the right to welfare. More than half of the American population believes the government invests too much time and money into welfare. In the article, it states “Welfare spending has been growing for decades and is at a record level, approaching $1 trillion annually. Putting that amount in perspective, if the cost of welfare was converted to cash, it would be five times the amount necessary to pull all poor Americans out of poverty. This means that there is sufficient money to remove poverty from all of the United States.
