When CrossFit exercise was first developed they had a specific purpose in mind. This purpose was to have an exercise program that lead to overall stability, endurance, and strength. They wanted a person who did these exercises to be given a program that would give them overall fitness. When you start a CrossFit exercise program you will have a variety of exercises that include gymnastics, calisthenics, weight training, and other different fitness routines. A good workout regimen helps focus on your entire body in order to get it into shape and healthier. When you do a CrossFit exercise routine you will be following the same principle military personnel do in their exercise routines. Before you get into this routine and are able to do it at home, you should make sure that you first get training from a professional trainer as CrossFit is a routine that has specialized exercises.…

The two sports have many differences; the overarching difference between track and cross country is the pace and the amount of distance that one runs. Track is typically a faster pace than cross country; this is because track is composed of shorter distances. Track offers a variety of sprints; whereas cross country is focused more towards pace. This makes cross country more of an endurance sport when contrasted with track, which is more of a muscle strength sport; either a runner has the speed or they do not. Also within…

I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…

The Race Between Cross Country and Track Cross country and track are my two favorite sports. I love running through the woods in cross country and the competitive atmosphere of track. However, I like to run cross country more than I like to run track mainly because cross country has a more interesting running environment. But cross country and track are more similar than most people think. Track and cross country are both extremely similar and yet extremely distinct from one another. Different, but yet similar, in the sense of preparation, practices, meets, and racing. How much preparation an athlete puts in before a meet will affect how well they will perform. For example, in cross country, it is highly recommended that cross country members run over the summer, so they will be in shape by…

90 minutes to make or break your season. The grass under your cleats when arriving at the pitch. Wind blowing through jerseys while sprinting to get the ball. The silky feel of your school colors on your sweaty skin. The thrill achieved by that one perfect kick straight into the feet of the waiting teammate right next to the goalie's box. The skill and precision that goes into one sport that the world goes crazy for. Imagine dribbling across the length of the pitch and passing the ball, waiting for that pass back to complete the two-touch the team has been practicing endlessly. The ball is coming straight at you at break-neck speed. It’s too high to stop with your feet, what do you do? You breathe, take a look at your coach who is chewing ferociously…

The smell of the crisp fresh air, the little whinny of the horses from the barn munching down their grain; another beautiful day at the barn. But then something unexpected; turning a corner six little heads turn to look at the stranger walking by. New foals, with their fuzzy little coats and spiky manes. Five were brown and one gray, their eyes glowing with curiosity. But something was wrong-- they had no mother. Curious, I was quick to find the answer; they had been abandoned, left to die. Quietly I slipped into the pen of theses foals. they were skittish at first, not quite sure if they could trust me. It was then I noticed the lack of fur and goopy eyes. These little babies were suffering with an assortment of issues, mental and physical. These small creatures were the byproduct of the racehorse breeding industry.…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…

Nearly 65% of children say they participate in sports to be with their friends (Statistic Brain). Sports were established so that the individual could not only exercise, but also to compete against a rival. Just as there are individual sports, there are team sports in high school. The idea of a team sport is that every single person on the field or court must work in unison to have the greatest opportunity to win. In addition to the increasing popularity of sports, the average child’s age when they join a team is decreasing. For example, the age that a child joins a basketball team has shifted from fourth grade to first grade or even kindergarten in the past decade. School is the primary factor when you review the participation in athletics,…

I can say it has been over a year since I did my last amateur cross country race, between moving, family/work responsibilities and a self admitted laziness in actually getting my ass to a race early Sunday mornings when I could be sleeping in, I do, in fact miss this part of my cycling experience, therefore I am hoping to join in on the weekend racing festivities next spring when the local mountain bike series starts up again. Even though I have not done much racing lately, I have been doing plenty of riding and having a blast exploring all the sweet trails in my small part of the world. While writing this article on racing I was reminded of all the excitement, nervousness and unplanned chaos that comes hand in hand with weekend racing and…

In Northern Michigan, the winter season can be long, cold and dreary; a few short winter months will turn into half a year. It is a season that can produce restlessness and depression in people of all ages. For many students, it would be beneficial to be able to participate in a school sport, rather than stay cooped up indoors all winter season. Many may not realize that East Jordan Middle High School does not offer many winter sports to students, offering only one to males and two to females. This leaves many students uninvolved in the winter, students who long to play sports all year round. With many options available such as ice hockey, skiing, and snowboarding, student athletes want more sports during the winter time. As it boosts school…
