This discourse community was founded out of the need of a food supply, and the need to survive, But since then there has been many advancement in the fishing world, technology has taught people how to catch fish more efficiently. One of the main contributing factors to this is the ability to use cell phones and GPS to guide Fishermen to where they believe they can catch fish, and the ability for hundreds to thousands of Anglers (members of the fishing discourse) to communicate and share relevant information on new ideas and places to fish using the internet/ internet forums. (Newell, Rob. “Defining a professional Bass Angler.”) There is much more to being a fisherman than just having good fishing skills. Having a positive attitude, patience, commitment, respect, and integrity are also what makes a fisherman into an Angler. An Angler would be defined as someone that has been a member of the discourse community for an extended period of time, and have the ability to show proficiencies in the ability to fish.…

Blue marlins, some of the most prized catches of fishermen, are among the most gruelingly difficult fish to catch; so difficult, in fact, it usually requires a team. In The Old Man and the Sea however, the old man had nothing but a line and his own strength. Blue marlins are a very important part of the story because it shows his pride and will power to succeed even though the rest of the village might have lost faith in him. Since blue marlins are such a prized catch they can be used to display a fishermen’s skill, which may have been why this particular fish was used in the book. Blue marlins are prized trophy fish, hard to catch, and are very important to different societies, making it a very good, yet subtle, way of showing the old fisherman’s accomplishment in an even greater way.…

I feel it is safe to say that everyone has the general idea of fishing the traditional way. In which, you have a pole and a reel of string with a hook tied on at the end. Some people use floaters (mini buoys), weights, lights, and bait (live or synthetic) to enhance this style of fishing. This type of fishing can be done wherever there is water; at a pond, off the shoreline, at a harbor, off a pier, or even a boat.…

Snapper is one of the most popular types of fish consumed in Miami. Fishing for snapper is also requires less equipment than other types of fishing. This explains why snapper fishing is highly popular in Miami where commercial and recreational fishing is practised. Snapper fishing is commonly practised near reefs and in clear waters with rapid currents. Shrimp is the most commonly used type of bait although other types of bait are also in common use. However, the use of shrimp can pose a challenge as it can also act as bait for other fish types. Therefore, effective methods of snapper fishing commonly used in Miami include drift fishing, artificial reef fishing, anchor fishing, and wreck fishing. Apart from offshore locations such as coral reefs on Miami Beach, snapper can also be found in inland locations such inland canals and waterways as well as Biscayne Bay. The fish often occupy habitats near the bottom of oceans but close to the ocean shore.…
