Persuasive Abortion Debate
The last, and final, presidential debate has occurred for this election season, and one of the topics that was brought up was about abortion. A portion of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States (U.S.) Constitution states, “Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws” (Agresti). Many people have asked questions such as: Should abortion be legal? Should it be illegal? How far along can a mother be to be allowed to abort her baby? All these questions have been floating around for the past couple of years and nobody seems to be doing anything. Abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy. …show more content…
He believes the decision, as to if abortion should be illegal, should be brought back to the state government to decide and if he wins, he will do that. According to an interview with CBN News in 2011, Trump used to be pro-choice but after hearing and seeing a friend’s experience, as well as many others, he changed his views (Brody). Many people think their tax dollars do not fund abortions, but they somewhat do. The Hyde Amendment prevents Medicaid from funding abortions except for limited cases such as rape or incest, as well as life endangerment (Conover). As a Christian, I believe life begins at conception; therefore, I do no want my tax dollars to pay for someone to abort their baby. If abortion was never legalized in 1973, more than 17 million people would be employed and the incomes of those aborted would help the country in some way …show more content…

    Even though Planned Parenthood may provide abortion procedures, they account for only 3% of their total services (“2013-2014 Annual Report”). A large concern for anti-abortion critics is that they are indirectly paying for abortions with their tax dollars. Planned Parenthood, does in fact receive 41% of their annual revenue from the government, but only in two ways: through Title X grants and Medicaid reimbursements (“2013-2014 Annual Report”; Kurtzleben). Title X, the only federal bill specifically for contraceptive and sexual health services, prohibits the use of its funds for abortions (Cohen). Medicaid also, as of 1997, bans the use of its funds for abortions and abortion-related services (Richardson).
