Respect is a very strong fiber of my being. My childhood made me realize that treating people the way you would like to be treated is not just something we heard in school, it should be lived by. Everyone starts off with the same level of respect from me. It does not matter one 's title, sex, race, religion, or sexual preference. If you are a living, breathing, human being I will treat you as I would like to be treated. Everyone starts off with 100% respect and then how much respect I give you in the future depends on your actions. ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE My upbringing and personal experiences are what shaped my character of who I am today. I cannot compare the inequality I faced to others, but it was enough for me to realize that fair treatment and respect is very important to who I am and my character. When I see others being mistreated I have a deep seated urge to stand beside them and show them they are not alone. It does not matter to me if I am the only one that feels this way; I will stand up for what I believe in. I was the only straight male that joined…

From past experiences I have learned the real meaning of respect. This word is more powerful than one can imagine. With respect comes unselfishness. When people respect others, they are treated equally. My mother and father always told me to be tactful in the way I treated others, so I would also be respected. It has worked in the past and will always hold true in the future. If someone respects another with proper judgment, people feel good inside which gives them a sense of integrity. When I give respect and witness how it makes others feel, I feel like more of a person. I feel proud. Honored.…

As human beings we feel the need to find a point to everything. It is hard to believe that something just happens. Good things happen for a reason, just as bad things do. Suffering is no different, in our minds there must be a point to experiencing bad things. Thus, suffering makes us stronger by strengthening our personality, motivating us to be better, and teaching us to accept what cannot be changed.…

I am always amazed at how quick non-believers are to say they is not God when something bad happens, yet do not praise God when good things happen. If he is responsible for the evil and suffering, who is responsible for the good. Through my experiences, my good outweight my bad. I may have had times when money was tight, relationships were horrible, and even experiencing abuse, but they are not numbered more than my greatness. I use my marriage as an example, after a few weeks my husband started abusing me. I left after only four months. My current relationship has been the first in my life to last more than six months without splitting up. I have been unemployed with two children, but never hungry or homeless. I grew up very poor and now…

Respect is a value that I take very seriously as do many others, including my parents. I was raised to always respect everyone, no matter what. I have trouble with this because I am the type of person that when I do not know anyone I am a very withdrawn and introverted to the point of when someone says hello to me I will not even respond. Also, since I live with my parents they see me in all states of mind. When I get angry I catch myself taking it out on them. I feel so bad afterwards because I know it is not really their fault. I want to be able to at least bottle my emotions enough to make sure I never hurt their feelings, so they know that I am trying to always be respectful. Also I want to learn how not to be so introverted with people so that they do not think that I am being rude. Not only is this important to my integrity, but this also might make it easier for me to meet new people and find new friends!…

I believe that suffering does help one become more human, that one cannot, or should not avoid suffering, and that by suffering we can form a bond and understanding of other people. In my opinion, there is not a single person that has not had to endure pain and suffering. It seems that some people go through more pain and suffering than others, but all go through some form or degree of it. Research suggest that, despite its unpleasantness, suffering may actually have positive social consequences, acting as a sort of “social glue” that fosters cohesion and solidarity within groups of people. Suffering is simply a part of life. I think that our own suffering helps us to empathize with others suffers, and because we have truly walked in the…

In speaking of the Holocaust and a theology and suffering and solidarity, Rabbi Irving Greenberg gave an image which compelled me when I first heard of it in my Liberation Christology class. Goizueta paraphrased the statement in saying “To stand over a pit of burning children and say ‘God is love’, is incredible and obscene. In the face of that kind of unconscionable cruelty the only credible statement is to step in, pull the child out, clean their face, and heal his or her wounds.” Certainly a compelling statement for me, given my constant look to the practical. Trying to find practical ways to alleviate suffering, dwelling within the realm of…

The prime example of suffering in the bible is that of Jesus. He suffered the ultimate sacrifice of death to save mankind from death for their sins. This gives a comparison for someone who is suffering; it shows that however bad the suffering of that person is it is nothing compared to the suffering felt by Jesus. The bible also says that we should be happy that we are suffering just as Jesus did, ‘be happy that you are sharing in Christ’s sufferings so that you will be happy and full of joy when Christ comes again in glory. When people insult you because you follow Christ, you are blessed, because the glorious spirit, the Spirit of God, is with you.’ This teaches us that we should be proud to be a Christian and not worry about the suffering that that may bring upon us. The resurrection of Jesus also gives hope for a person in need as it tells them that suffering is only temporary and there will be an end to it.…

Respecting my elders, and everyone else, just comes natural to me, because when I was just a little girl, I was taught that I must always respect my elders, if I didn't, I'd get a slap on my face by my parents. As I grew up, I came to realize the true meaning of the phrase, "respect your elders," and I agree fully with my mother's teachings. I not only respected my elders, but I respected everyone around me.…
