Personal Statement: Why Am I Volunteer
I volunteer because I'd love to meet new people from different backgrounds and cultures who are passionate about helping others. Also, I consider volunteering is a great way to embrace the qualities and knowledge that I'm lacking of, which will help in improving myself.

I have volunteered at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Surrey. As a volunteer I helped maintain appearance of the store by tidying up, arranging merchandise, and restocking shelves when needed. Also, I helped hanging, ragouting clothes and assist customers to find what they need.

In addition, I have volunteered as an event supporter in new student orientation at KPU.

Moreover, I help to handle weekly meditation program and other community functions in Buddhist Vihara

Carefully, with a shaky hand, I successfully inserted an insulin pump into my left thigh. I counted every carbohydrate I ate and timidly calculated my carbohydrate/insulin ratio. The liquid I was distributing throughout my body was not in fact insulin, but saline. Volunteering as a diet aide at Camp Carefree, a children’s summer camp for type one diabetics, gave me the opportunity to know what it felt like to step into these innocent children’s shoes.…

Volunteering makes others want to help. In Atlanta, there was a snowstorm that left people stuck on roads with no way to get supplies. One stranded motorist created a Facebook page asking others for what they needed. The response was one enormous group that had to be split into seven regional groups, each group with 300 to 1,200 volunteers delivering supplies. In September 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics surveyed volunteering across the country. Statistics show that 25.3% of the United States residents have volunteered in some form. Volunteering will help others, yourself, and will increase the help that you get, ultimately making the world a better place. What will you do to increase volunteering in the future? Less people are getting involved, and without volunteers things will be a lot harder to accomplish. Without volunteering the needy will not get the supplies and services they need. If you increase volunteering, you will help the younger generation learn that volunteering is important and that it can continue to grow. Finally, volunteering can help fight cancer, increase educational standards, end hunger and much more. Volunteering can be for a small cause or a big cause; either way, it helps whatever you want to…

Whether it was holding the door open for the person behind me or simply telling them to have a nice day, my favorite thing to do has always been to make people smile. In elementary school, more often than not, I assumed the role of class helper. This entailed staying after class parties to help clean up messes or spending extra time at recess to make sure all of the kickballs were in their specific spots. As I've grown up, it only makes sense that my love for helping people in any shape or form has translated into a love for volunteering. Whether it is tutoring elementary school children or helping run a clothing drive, the numerous altruistic tendencies that have been instilled in me through volunteer work will forever shape who I am as a…

When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. I dodged a flying crayon as I saw children running around throwing paper airplanes, balls, while others just stared at their iPads, focused on the latest game. Not a single one of them even listened to me or glanced at me as I tried to yell over the loud chatter.…

Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

I volunteered in Salvation Army to provide help in coat give-away program. There was a big box filled with not arranged coats for both genders and all ages. I took off all coats from the box and put them on a large sheet that helps me to divide the coats into different categories: boys, girls, women, and men. I folded each group and returned it to the box.…

    (a) What does community service/volunteerism mean to you? * I define volunteerism as a service performed for the benefit of others with little or no benefit to the person carrying out the service. One may volunteer for many reasons but these should not include expecting to receive an income or publicity for work being done. One benefit that a volunteer may have however is growing their knowledge base about the activity in which they are participating. One should think about the ways which they can make their community a better place to live for themselves and everyone else. It’s really not that hard, carrying out simple actions like helping an elderly person to cross the road or donating your unworn clothes to persons who have a greater need for it can be classified as volunteerism.…
