Personal Statement: Pursuing Engineering My Future
Pursuing engineering as my future was a natural consequence of my love for machines, science and technology. ‘Learning to excel’ is the principal reason that strives everyone to turn efficient through self-perfection and I’m no exception in this regard. Even before my passion towards these machines, I have been in love with automobiles for as long as I can remember and this naturally intrigued me to explore, learn and develop ideas into practical solutions. As an undergrad, I was exposed to a stimulating academic environment in which both the theoretical and practical learning went hand in hand. The extensive coursework on core subjects like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and numerical methods which have naturally widen my scope of learning …show more content…
I learnt the concepts of Engineering materials and metallurgy in order to improve the machinability reduce the formation of burrs and to improve its wear resistance. I studied carburisation of the case hardened steel. Controlling time of carbon diffusion into the austenitic steel and maintaining the carbon content to 0.25% was a major concern since an important microstructure goal during carburisation is a stable, uniformly fine-grained austenite. This resulted in improved fatigue resistance and toughness after heat treatment which improved the quality of the produced gears. The performance factor was improved by reducing the downtime of bottleneck operation (Gear tooth cutting) by working out a design of the chuck for the workpiece that yielded in single minute exchange of dies (SMED). The availability factor was improved by proposing a change in the plant layout of the Crown gear machining line that substantially reduced the walking distance. All these factors put together, improved the manufacturing productivity by a significant number. The project was well received by the company and by the management of my …show more content…
I believe that pursuing my master’s at Purdue University will be a logical extension of my objectives. Among their pioneering research work in the field of design and manufacturing, it is the applied research in the Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Laboratory that provides the right fit to my futuristic endeavours. While the investigation of Optimal powertrain design, control and performance testing blends well with a part of my sophomore year project, other laboratories including Multibody Dynamics Lab provide a smooth transition into research in developing computationally efficient automotive components while also improving their safety, stability and their efficiency, which is a part of the entire range of thinking I would like to associate myself with. Exposure to such state of the art laboratory facilities will provide me with the perfect platform for a strong basis for advanced professional practice but also apply what I have learnt and assimilate more in this

Academics serve as the basis for growth in my career goals. I enjoy and excel in mathematics and science classes, but I hoped to select a field of study in college that also embodies my creative pursuits. For years, I separated my logical and creative passions, never considering that they could combine. Engineering arose as the perfect solution to…

After Graduate School, I hope to have my PhD in psychology or my doctorate in psychiatry. I would like to start out working in jails, talking to criminals and analyzing their brains versus the brain of an average adult to study how the brain reacts with criminal activity and why they do and feel what they do. I have heard that a person can not do that type of work for very long because it is emotionally tasking so after that, I would like to open my own counseling practice up. I would do either marriage and family therapy or focus on teenage depression. Eventually, I would like to retire into school psychology or become a psychology teacher. Also, if I ever have enough money, I will buy a house devoted to taking in stray animals…

I have enjoyed the classes that offered more of a challenge than others, classes like University Physics, all three calculus classes, chemistry and any other class that has made me think more critically about issues, or problems of the past and of the present day. I have also enjoyed working in teams on projects that these classes provided for us. Working in teams to complete projects or to just study was a delightful experience, because I got to work with smart intellectuals who, each with different ways of thinking, solving problems and had different amplitudes of knowledge and skill. Indulging in tackling a challenge with team work is one of the reasons I decided to set foot in the world of engineering. Engineering captivates me, the idea of materializing tangible results from knowledge and a person’s vision, is insanely remarkable. So one of my goals is to become an engineer and to create something new, which would benefit society while being environmentally…

As a child I loved playing dress up, I loved going to Tea Parties, and I loved playing with Legos. When I was little I found no problem with doing science experiments on my Barbie’s, or having princesses play Legos; however, as I entered kindergarten and first grade I found those two worlds weren’t supposed to coexist. Girls were supposed to play with girls toys, and boys were to play with boy toys. I decided, that was best and gave up my Lego set to the boy next door and focused on doing girl things. Next came second and third grade, where teachers begin to ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up”? Boys say things like: a military member, a lawyer, an engineer, a fireman, a scientist, a cop, and the list goes on and on. Whereas girls are kept more in a box with only certain professions being traditionally appropriate. I decided, that was correct and that I would be a science teacher so I could still be a part of the scientific world I so thoroughly enjoyed, yet still be traditionally…

Mechanical Engineering is the application of the principles of science and mathematics to a design of machinery and equipment used in transportation, manufacturing and energy conversion. The following annotated bibliography contains three sources related to the Mechanical Engineering major. The three sources will include a scholarly journal, a book, and a lab report, with different topics, but all relating to my academic discourse community. The scholarly journal is about a mechanical hand and it covers the basics on how it works without getting too overwhelming. The second source will be a textbook for a general chemistry class, where students are able to learn how to be literate with science. And for third and final source will be a lab report…

In high school, I felt as if I had been going through the motions my entire life, hoping that when I graduated, I’d be in a position that suited me and made me happy. My college experience so far has helped ground me to the point that, although I still do not know what I want to do, I think more often about those who are marginalized and forgotten, and that I can make a difference in Louisville, instead of attempting to escape to a bigger city.…

My future goal is to obtain enough education for me acquire some of the skills I want to work with women and children that have been abused, either violently or sexually. One of my main reasons for enrolling In the Addiction Studies Program here at Peninsula College is because drugs and alcohol play a huge part in Domestic Violence and other forms of abuse among other things. I would like to open a unique center, where women and children could go for safety, and I would incorporate and introduce Art Therapy as one of the many tools one needs to heal in this life long process. I strongly feel as a child, art helped me escape to a place that I needed to go to in troubled times. As an adult, just plain therapy was on…

As a rising senior, the past three years of my academic career have centered on all aspects of the sciences. And although I don't regret any of the classes I have taken throughout college, I feel bound and restricted to a set curriculum. It's a feeling I want to break out from because I believe college can offer me so much more than just my studies. I've taken part in many extracurricular activities but at the same time I still feel unsatisfied because there are so many more things I want to experience before I graduate. There is one particularly rewarding experience that continues to drive me to go outside the boundaries of academia.…

Technology is determined by need. Inventors often have a mysterious skill of resolving situations with their modernisms. But the thing that splits engineers from ordinary innovators is the ability to distinguish the importance of maintainable technological solutions for the future. Although many of our needs and difficulties remain the same, the answers keep changing with time. Furthermore to finding out how a machine operates, I’ve always been interested in design aspects and observing the incipient faults occurring within machines. This desire has strengthened my ability to recognize the scope for improvement and also inspired me to look outside the conventional functionalities of any machine.…

I wanted to study in a filed which had the room for innovation and could also have far-reaching impact on people’s lives. So I choose to study Mechatronics. In Iran’s university acceptance national examinations (Konkoor), I was ranked in the top level, so I entered Sharif university of technology, the most prominent and the best engineering university in my country. I entered the university with great enthusiasm and an ambition to work in the junction of technology and mechatronic systems. But what I faced the first semesters was simple, routine courses. No amount of inspiration or innovation was included in the courses and this could not satisfy my mind at all. I did not realize that the first years of undergraduate is not even supposed to be…
