Personal Statement: My First AP Calculus Class

Personal Statement Hello, my name is Shane Richardson. In Stranahan High School, I am a jack of all trades. I am currently the only sophomore taking Mr. Hale’s AP Calculus class, I have co founded the science club, and I play tennis outside of school. I think I would be an asset to the Honor Society because I am really organized. I know if you ever see my books in the hallway they are kind of a mess with papers but I know how to set up conferences, make lists, and organize events. I also never give up. In anything I do, I believe that if you start something you should see it through. One example of this is my calculus class. I started out the year not knowing anything about calculus. I didn’t even know what calculus (The study of change) was. I was really nervous about having my first AP math class and I was stressed out about the first quiz. I realized later that if I prepare well and I work my hardest I can succeed in anything. Co founding the science club has given me a new sense of responsibility that I lacked before. It made me think about not only myself but also members and what was in the best interest of the club. In the beginning it was really crazy organizing an event for every week but eventually we started having fun and working as a whole. This has also taught me that I am not always right.
I tend to be sort of an adaptive type that will learn from events and make better decisions based on that data. This requires me to be very empathetic at times by know how others feel. I am also unique in the way I get dedicated to something. If I find something I believe in like tennis I will go to the park every day for two or three hours so I can get better. I will put that same dedication in NHS by stepping up. I want to hopefully run for a leadership position next year, granted I get accepted. I do have some experience in that field.
