Personal Statement: Damage Controlman
Mike,
Welcome to the class. You have an extensive resume in the world of fire and rescue. Have you ever thought about coming into the military? In the Navy we call your profession Damage Controlman. I am from the Aviation side of the Navy; however, I have always side if I had to choose a rate on the surface side it would be that one. That job is very exciting and important because when you’re out to sea everyone is a firefighter. I think the best part of their job is the schoolhouse and training new recruits. I have good friend of mine that is a Damage Controlman too and has reached his highest rank of Master Chief in a short time. My uncle was a Fire Chief for a long time until he retired.
My degree is also in Homeland Security.

Origin and Development of NFPA 1006 In 1994, the NFPA Standards Council, after receipt of a request for the development of a standard for the professional qualifications of rescue technicians, approved the establishment of a technical committee on Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications under the Professional Qualifications project. The committee developed the first edition of NFPA 1006, Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications, which established general job performance requirements for a rescue technician as well as specific job performance requirements for special rescue operations. These performance requirements include rope rescue, surface water rescue, vehicle and machinery rescue, confined space rescue, structural collapse rescue, and trench rescue. In the 2003 edition of NFPA 1006, all of the chapters were reviewed and changes were made to comply with the Manual of Style for NFPA Technical Committee Documents.
