Personal Statement: Be Human?
Personal Statement
‘Be human.’ That is the words of my mentor said to me. Being a teacher has always been my dream since childhood. In my opinion, teacher is one of the greatest careers in the world because it helps people to be a better person. Hence, three years ago, I chose the major of Drama in Education and started my journey of being a qualified teacher.
In the past three years, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of Drama in Education. Besides the professional courses, I attended some optional courses about performance, art, literature, and culture, etc. what’s more, I extended my knowledge base by reading extracurricular books about psychology and pedagogy and self-studied other type of drama. By this chance, I attended a Story-telling Theatre project, a new form of theatre in China. To complete this project, I searched for hundreds of documents and video data and finally grasped a comprehensively understanding of its performing style and methods. It only took me two months to finish this play, from the beginning script writing to the last rehearsal and performance. This play, featured with few visual aids and props for performance and many interactive questions with audiences, was well received by our university staff and students. In the past three years, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of Drama in Education. Besides the professional courses, I attended some optional courses about performance, art, literature, and culture, etc. what’s more, I extended my knowledge base by reading extracurricular books about psychology and pedagogy and self-studied other type of drama. Thanks to my comprehensive learning method, I was awarded the Comprehensive Scholarship with a high GPA of 3.66. To polish my teaching skills, my vacation time was spent on teaching practice. It was those experiences that made me realized the meaning of my existence: to help my students become a better person. Therefore, I wish I could upgrade my study into a higher level to provide a better educational experience to my
