I. a. b. Intro Academic summary: In “Let Teenagers Try Adulthood,” Leon Botstein argues that the “American high school is obsolete and should be abolished.” He explains that this obsolescence is because high school does not represent the way real life works, that real life is not a popularity contest dominated by the best athletes like the hierarchies that he claims exist among students and teachers in high schools.…
I love music and children; therefore I found a way to blend the two together by creating a music ministry for the children of my church and those in my community. When I initially came to my current church three years ago, I realized there was no music ministry for the children thus I wanted to start one. I had been singing since the age of 2 and have had several opportunities to sing at events such as my Kindergarten graduation, and many other occasions throughout elementary, middle and high school. Once the minister of music became aware of my vocal abilities, he quickly asked me to sing solos and I did. However, I was the only young person singing at the church and I wanted to change that. So I spoke to some adults and organized the first children’s choir of my church. Two weeks after its inception, the children’s choir performed their first song, “I Am a Promise, I Am a Possibility” to an…

I have nurtured their growth as both musicians and people. I have watched them continue to enjoy music and become leaders among their peers well past the time in my classroom. As students have graduated from Fort Osage, many have come back to our district and have enrolled their own children into the Beginning Band. Other graduates are now teaching music at high schools and universities. My greatest teaching accomplishment is the legacy of my teaching living on through these students. I have instilled in them the belief that regardless of their circumstances, they can be successful and make a difference in this…
Personal Experience Essay This past summer I participated in a group known as the Mississippi Baptist AllState Youth Choir and Orchestra. It consisted of an over 150-member choir and a full orchestra made up entirely of ninth through twelfth grade church going students from all over the state of Mississippi. It is meant to strengthen these students musically, as well as spiritually. Not only did I meet many new people and make many new friends, I had a few new experiences and new emotions that came with them. It was the first time I had sung with a large choir, the first time I had performed with a full orchestra and when I had chosen my career as a minister of music. I have sung in other choirs before (small ensembles, church choirs), but none of those compared with this one. This choir was comprised of young men and women my age that were personally auditioned…
Youth Culture is the collective cultural practices of groups of young people (typically between the ages of 15 and 25) these are groups that apart from the dominant or “mainstream” society. When I was younger I would have been described as shy and reserved. I was like an un-blossomed flower. My life has since changed drastically. Many opportunities came across me such as taking a cruise with family and business friends, being nominated to be a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 7170 member of 2015 at SUNY Oneonta, and being chosen to go to a National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) for Medicine in Boston 2015 at Babson College.…

I have a well- rounded experience with working with children and youth whether it was through my job, volunteer, internship, and church. As a job I worked as an Assistant Teacher where I gave lessons to children based on the bible. I taught them and included creative activities where they can learn in a fun way. In college I took a course where I had to go to a Middle School and help students with their homework who had a learning disabilities and who need extra help. Moreover, at my internship I worked in a government agency in the United Kingdom called Youth Offending Team which primarily focused on helping to rehabilitate youth who have committed crimes. Its goal was to get the youth mainly boys to be better citizens. I worked with a lot…

Angry with everything – society, police, and the way they treat us. This is a common point of view of the young adults.
