My nickname is “Lil Bit”. That is what everyone calls me. I play volleyball and softball. My favorite class is sports medicine. Learning all the tapes and how to help athletes and being on the sidelines of the games is amazing. It really helped me to see what a career as an athletic trainer is going to be like since that is what I want to be. My favorite teams are Clemson and the Atlanta Braves. My papa and I will always watch the braves baseball games together. My papa currently has lung cancer. He goes back to the doctor Wednesday to find out if the chemo helped. He is my best friend. I currently live with him to help take care of him since he isn’t able to cook and clean I do it for him. I also go to FCA Friday mornings before school starts. I go to Northside Baptist church and sing in the youth band on Wednesdays.…

I have always wanted to be an athlete since I was a child but due to my health at the time, I was not able to get involved with anything that had to do with sports or physical activities at school. I remember when I was unable to go to school for about a week and a half because I couldn’t walk more than five steps without being out of breathe and having to use an inhaler so there was no way I could even think about playing sports. As time went by, my health has gotten better without any help. I would somehow still carry that same inhaler with me everywhere I go even though I never had a use for it. I was not even sure if it still worked, I just wanted to have it with me just in case something does happen. I met my boyfriend in college and he…
Down in the locker room, one of my favorite coaches looked at my team and stated, “I’m sorry. I will not be returning next year to be your coach.” I sat there almost in tears, because at that moment my love for basketball almost left with him. Billy Martin was a favorite coach of mine. He loved each of us like one of his own, and treated all of us the same. He wanted each of us to succeed and would do anything to help us reach that. Coach Martin instilled in me no matter how talented a person was, you could always beat them by working hard. I could not believe he would not be my head coach next year, but he did soften the blow by saying he would still be around until we were use to our new head coach. We were all very upset about his department…
When I think of coaching I think of practice planning, game planning, scouting strategizing of offense and defense, choosing my starters, little things like that. All of those ideas are valid, but that's not the whole picture. There is a lot more to coaching than planning for a practice or a game. Many times a person who would like to coach an interschool athletic team has little or no preparation to teach sports skills and techniques. The only qualifications is often the person's participation on his or her high school, college, or university's team, coach of a community youth team or even perhaps as a professional player. While all that experience is valuable in one way or another, it does not constitute an adequate preparation for coaching an interschool team as an integral part of the school's physical education program Regardless of the experience or teaching certificates a person may have, State Education Law, Article (6), Section 300lb, requires, "That a person employed as a coach of an interschool athletic team must old valid first aid skills and knowledge certification (12 hours of initial training), and adult CPR certification (4 hour training). "Within the coaching profession there are three potential secondary school coaches: (1)a certified physical education teacher, (2) a teacher certified in an area other that physical education, (English, Mathematics), (3)holds no teaching certification and must qualify for a "Temporary Coaching License."…
Miriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines ‘coach’ as “one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy” (218). Many people depict coaches as grouchy, intense people who only care about whether their team wins. A coach, to me, is more than that. A coach is a person who teaches valuable lessons, whether it be on or off the court, field, or stage. They…

My dream is to be an athletic trainer, coach, or having something to do with staying close to sports. In order to follow my dream, I would need to visit some place that would allow me to experience a career that has to do with sports. That’s why with the ticket I am holding in my hand, I would be able to get admitted into the locker room area where I can see coaches as well as trainers do their jobs.…
The teaching-coaching function of the domains of nursing practice is a very important aspect that nurses must practice to be effective. We learn many things from textbooks, clinical environments and job placements; but I think some of the most valuable lessons and skills that I have learned were from my fellow nurses and other healthcare providers while on the job. I work with adolescents on a daily basis that are cognitively impaired that need to be taught many life skills. The competencies that I want to emphasize in my post are the first that is listed which is; “Timing: Capturing a Patient’s Readiness to Learn”. This one particular patient that was on my unit was a 14 year old male that was being resistant to the teaching of proper use of his metered dose inhaler. The patient did not want to accept the fact that he had asthma. He stated that the only reason that he has shortness of breath was, “because I smoke too many cigarettes”. I recognized that the patient just simply wasn’t ready to learn at this time. “Assessing where a patient is, how open he is to information, deciding when to go ahead even when the patient does not appear ready, are key aspects of effective patient teaching” (Benner, 2001). So I waited a few hours later and gathered some information about asthma and the benefits of using the inhaler. After hours upon hours of speaking with the patient, he was finally able to realize that the inhaler would give him a better quality of life when used correctly. This was about a month ago, and the patient is now using the inhaler as needed, the correct way. This may seem like a small achievement to some, but I felt very complete when I went home that night after speaking with this patient. Thank you for reading my post, I look forward to reading your feedback. James 5:15 - And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.…
While in a pregame meeting 30 minutes until the bus left, my stomach started to hurt uncontrollably.Within 10 minutes I was laying on the floor unable to cope with the pain. I was rushed to the hospital and after doing many medical tests the doctors told me I would have to have an appendectomy because my appendix could burst any moment. I didn’t really realize until the next morning after surgery my high school football career could be over. Something I had worked so hard for, taken away from me so quick and unfairly, I was enrage.. I felt my senior season slip through my fingertips. However, I still needed to be a leader for this football team., even if I wasn’t able to play. I made a promise to myself to lead through positivity, pride, and…

Soccer is a huge part of my life, and a big part of a soccer team is the coach. The coach must make an impact on their players in order to make the players better. The best coaches will stay with you forever even if they are not your coach anymore. When I was younger and throughout middle school I only had one soccer coach my entire life. The coach I had for my entire life was my father, so getting a brand new coach during my first year of high school was quite scary. I had always been extremely close to my coach, obviously because he was my father, and getting another one that I may not be close to made me nervous. My father knew how I played better that anyone, and he also knew my strengths and weaknesses. Dad had a straightforward view of…

When I was coaching them I already had an idea of what major I wanted and that is sports management, and coaching really made me want to do it more because I got to see them grow and you can see the potential that some of the players had to go on and be a successful soccer player. Coaching was really fun because I was able to show some of the kids, drills that made me better as player and even though many of them were young they were able to catch on and eventually do the drills really…
