Architecture is in my opinion not just a demanding science and technology but also a fascinating art. After nearly five years of my undergraduate program as a major of Architecture at Shandong Jianzhu University, I became even more determined to pursue my chosen major and corresponding career. Architecture is actually a complicated and comprehensive scientific discipline with a broad range of profound knowledge. China enjoys a long glorious history of architecture, but for some reason or another China’s education in architecture lags behind such developed countries as the United States in recent years. Hoping that I can make use of my architectural design to serve people and yet realizing that I still have a lot to learn in this field, I am looking forward to an opportunity to further my learning at an advanced level at your esteemed university, in the hope of broadening my horizons, sharpening my insights and enhancing my professional potential.

Throughout my college education, I have been committed to the pursuit of excellence in my academics. I made unremitting efforts to strive for excellence in my curricula and laid a solid foundation for further studies. My overall GPA reached 82/100 and my previous academic performance remained upper 20% in my faculty. I harvested several scholarships and won awards in some architectural design competitions on campus. What underlies this excellence is definitely my passion for architecture, a lasting commitment to academics and an outstanding intellectual ability. Apart from the scholarships and awards I have been granted, I have a good command of many software packages for design and drawing such as CAD, Photoshop, and so on. My academic initiative and self-learning ability often drives me to the library to update my professional knowledge through reading books on architecture and geographic environment. I also benefited a lot from regularly visiting such architecture-specific websites as

Architecture is the art and profession of planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambiance to reflect a functional and aesthetic environment. When I was eleven years old I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I had a hard time coping with the changes in my mood. Part of my healing process consisted of trying many different medications, therapies, and developing the desire to heal. During this time, friends I had for many years pushed me away, and although I felt alone and confused at times, I came out thriving. Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder thought to be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that can result in extreme swings in mood—from manic highs to depressive lows. To be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you must have experienced a high period (mania). Bipolar mania is described as an “extreme high,” or feeling unusually great. Most people with bipolar disorder when ill or when symptomatic experience more lows than highs. Unfortunately, the lows I experienced were so extreme that the friends I thought would be by my side through anything chose to follow other kids and use my disorder to bully me creating deeper depression. Initially, I felt stigmatized by my diagnosis. Most people I encountered either didn’t know what bipolar was or how to interact with someone suffering with the disorder. Teachers, peers, and family members had a hard time knowing what to say or how to act around me. I started to feel like I was no longer my own person but just one big disaster and my mood swings became even more extreme as a result. Eventually, I grew tired of feeling sorry for myself and began my quest for the right medication, vitamins, nutrition, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing. I found my inner strength and courage. I put my energy into school, new friendships and family and started…

A friend recently told me “Don’t let the things you can’t control, control you”. I realized how much this small piece of advice relates to my life as an African American woman. I can’t control the fact that I don’t live with- or even know- my father. I can’t control how society perceives people of color. But I control what I do. I have discovered that I embody the ability to beat the odds given to a black, fatherless girl. I can be who I want to be with hard work and determination.…

I am ready to start a new chapter in my life and to take the next step to becoming a Registered Nurse. I have worked for the NHS for over 3 years now, and have been a Health Care Assistant for 16 months. Prior to this I worked as an Ambulance Care Assistant for East Midlands Ambulance Service. I have had experience in patient care from washing, bathing, monitoring vital signs, and working both in the community and in a hospital setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team has helped me effectively care for my patients and developed my communication skills in working with other NHS professionals. One of the most satisfying parts of my job now, and in my previous role is the direct patient contact. Developing trusting relationships and listening to them is very rewarding and helps me to get to know my patients, show empathy and maintain their dignity. I am used to shift working, working 7 days a week with various shift patterns, so this side of the role will not faze me.…

Hi. I’ve written sixteen drafts. None of them sound like me. I’ve written sixteen opening hooks. None of them sound like me. I cover my eyes as I click DELETE again. The sight is just too painful. Hours of writing, and I’m back at square one, staring blankly at an empty word document. It is two in the morning, and needless to say, I’m tired. At the moment, I need something clever, something to hook the reader with. But my audience isn’t a fish. Plus it is late, and I lack the energy to continue trying to be clever and cute. The reader will just have to understand that I don’t talk in metaphors or begin my daily conversations with clever anecdotes. I put my fingers to my keyboard and type the most straightforward opening I can think of. Hi.…
