I choose to come to Dorothy Stringer because I felt that it was a very high graded school and was considered a sports college. Because I am very sporty, this school has been perfect for me offering the opportunity of completing my PE GCSE one year early, in which I achieved a B grade, I mainly enjoy physical education because it is a possibly what I would like to do as a career and I am now taking the JSLA (junior sports leaders’ award). I enjoy all sports and am willing to try anything. I also enjoy History and am doing very well in the subject with a high prediction. I have discovered many things that I can do, for example many sports that I thought I would never be able to do and now I love them, I also discovered that I am good at History which was a big surprise to me, (I have discovered that) I am a very well mannered person and just want to get on with my work. I am very proud to be the manager to the Dorothy Stringer badminton team, and a few weeks ago we faced Brighton College and won, which was a surprise. I am also proud of being badminton player of the year and being selected to also run the 100m for Dorothy Stringer. There are many things for me to be proud of but the best thing is that I am doing better in class and all the teachers are positive about me.

I take part in many school activities which include the manager of the Stringer badminton team and the athletics club at stringer; I have helped at many school events which included parent’s evenings and Dorothy Stringer Open Evenings, I have also taken part in Stringer competitions like badminton competitions and athletics: representing the school at town sports. I have not been on many school trips but the ones I have attended I have enjoyed very much for example the Geography away from home coursework trip to Dolawen located in Wales, it was the first real away school trip and I enjoyed it very much.

I did my work experience at a car mechanic garage called Roger Jackson garage, where I did many things for example; changing tyres, pumping up tyres, changing the brakes and many other tasks that I was asked to do. I enjoyed every second of work experience even though we did not always have work I got do have a laugh with some of the people that worked there and they took me in and were very friendly towards me. I also had to wash cars, and once I went to the MOT shop and they showed me how to do thorough checks. There were some aspects of this work that were the same as school for example; I had to be able to obey instructions and also be able to ask for help if I needed it.

I am in many clubs and activities for example; I am in the u17 Sussex badminton squad and have won some tournaments also the Brighton Bats badminton team where we have won against other towns, I am a part time badminton coach at Southwick leisure centre and help my coach train two of her students. I take part in a club almost everyday because I like to keep as active as possible and not just sit at home. I am in the Phoenix athletics club but am taking a rest from that because of my GCSE’s that are coming up. I am a member of the Hove Lagoon sailing club and am RYA level three which means I can sail out at sea. I enjoy many different sports and will try all of them but there is only some where I will really enjoy them but I love to be in competitive games or races. I enjoy various types of music from R&B to soul; I like a mixture of styles of music.

At college I am hoping to take A level sport which I hope will take me further on the university and possibly become a badminton coach or maybe a Physical Education teacher at school or college, I also hope to take Modern History A level and possibly Biology because that will link in with my sport A level. In my future I hoping to become a sport coach or teacher but as a second option I would not mind being a History teacher and teach at a school.

Also My Junior and Senior year I was apart of student council and the prom committee. We put in a lot of time and effort into making sure school events went smoothly. Chemistry is the science on which the future relies; research is continually opening up new opportunities for the chemical industry. My passion to make a difference can be achieved through the paths of catalyst design, pharmaceuticals, Medicines, bio-fuels and polymer chemistry. Any one of these routes will provide me with new challenges; in Chemistry there is always something new for me to discover. My infatuation for science began when my high school teacher introduced me to Chemistry by demonstrating a simple reaction of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, causing me to question the reasons for the effervesce and the acid-base reaction. It was this demonstration of a simple decomposition that sparked my interest in Chemistry. It was not just the demonstration that interested me; it was the desire to understand how and why.I am currently studying A-Levels at The Manchester College, in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and AS-Level in Further Maths and my ability to cope with this busy schedule shows I am able to cope well under pressure. In my January exam modules last year, I achieved three A grades in Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I am enjoying the breadth and depth of my A-Level studies and relish the freedom to work more independently. I have found that sixth-form study offers great scope for reading around my subjects and free periods give me the opportunity to work on solutions to problems before asking for any support or advice from my tutors. My love of science and aspiration for a Chemistry career is reflected in my A-Level choices where good time management, self motivated study skills and ability to cope with stress and pressure are essential. Chemistry and Physics have helped me further my interest and develop my analytical skills, Maths helps my problem solving skills and helps me to work logically. I believe all the qualities I have developed through my courses are essential for any good chemists. I enjoy reading, mainly factual books to…

“A goal is a dream with a deadline”- said Napoleon Hill. I am a little girl with big dreams who has been continuously climbing uphill all my life. While I am aware that everybody climbs hills and faces obstacles in their lives, I also believe that the success of those battles may well be based on the foundation which one walks - how firm and supportive it is. As I look back, I realize that the challenges I have faced enabled me to find a strong footing within a situation that was not altogether stable.…

Machines and technology are the two combinations that push my childhood imagination to the limit where no walls are in front of my imagination. I realise my interest in engineering started to grow strong as my father himself was always surrounded with machines. With my interest specifically aiming towards a new invention, I started to become envious of the world as some of my dreams had already been invented by someone else, like the usage of an electrical car powered up totally by a rechargeable battery that uses nature itself to harness energy. I wish to become a mechanical engineer as it will allow me to make my dreams come true. Learning is a process of working as I am targeting to finish up my studies fast until I get a degree and then start to take a job and form a team of researchers to invent things.…

I was born and raised by Parents that were not opportune to go through a formal Education of whatsoever. They vow to themselves (an unspoken vow) that I (Jibril) or any of my siblings will never pass through the same route as theirs, they sent me to the best school in Northern Nigeria ( Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology). My late mother instill the belief and the discipline in me that if a lady or a girl can make it in a classroom, she see no reason why I cannot make it. My father reminded me that he will spend his last penny as a business man to send me to the best school on the land and carter for all my moral, financial, parental and academic needs so long as I promise that I can make it to the top echelon level of academic ladder in the country. I DID JUST THAT, and my Quest and aspiration is to specialize in my God chosen career and field of study in a country where I will be given the opportunity to show what I can do. In Nigeria I saw people spending six to seven years on M sc program. Elkanemi College of Islamic theology is a Natural Science school, after my graduation from the college in 2003,I applied to study pharmacy as my first choice, it is difficult to get admission into most of the Nigerian Universities because of corruption and nepotism, you have to know a politician or a prominent academician that is ready to help you out in getting admission. My father is a business man and he knows no body in the academia or political circle, he was very frustrated but he told me never to give up, he asked me to cram a dictionary I said Ok, I took my precious time to read over three hundred and fifty English novels, with eighty of them or so by James Hadley Chase(Raymond Brabazon Rene), I re applied in 2004 but to no avail, in the 2005/2006 academic session I was lucky enough to have a politician who happens to be the former provost of Sir Kashim College of Education Maiduguri (Alhaji Maina Mahmud Mafa). On February 2006 I got admission…

“Accounting is like a puzzle.” You have to analyze every aspect of a job before making a decision. My first accounting professor told me if you are good at problem solving, you can be great at accounting. It was hard to find his reasoning at first, but after choosing to take his accounting course, I realized what he meant. You need logic; everything has a set direction and technique. Each piece of an accounting job is placed carefully and has a high significance amongst its environment. You need analytical skills. Take apart every piece of information you receive on a job and use it to make your own conclusions in order to put all the pieces back together in a form that makes sense.…
