Personal Responsibility rough draft

This paper will explain the relationship between personal responsibility and college success. It will explore the definition of personal responsibility and what it means to me. Lastly Include a preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in my educational goals to achieve success.

“In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt. Personal responsibility to me means taking matters in my own hand, and living with every decision I make. In my life time I have made a lot of choices in life some good some bad, taking ownership and knowing no matter what the out come it was my personal responsibility to make the choices that I made. A lot of times we tend to blame others for our failures but in fact the truth is we see our own weaknesses in other people. Which tends to make us blame everything that is bad in our life on others and not take personal responsibility for our own actions. Like in the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt states in the long run it is us that shapes our live and intern we shape ourselves and who we become in life is our own personal responsibility.

Personal responsibility and college success go hand in hand. Taking charge of your life is very important when it comes to college success. At the end of the day one of the biggest decisions in my opinion that you make in life is choosing the right career for your self which intern involves a lot of self sacrifice and dedication to achieve your goals. A career that matches your skills and something that you fill cohesive with. Improving personal self management is another key to success in college which involves a high level of personal responsibility to achieve knowing that there is no one out there for you to manage your life for you, we as individuals are responsible for our own actions. This involves a mastery

Those nine simple words speak volumes in that taking responsibility or holding oneself accountable, answerable, for their actions or inactions, accepting the consequences that result from those actions or inactions and most important, understanding the effect one has on family, friends, loved ones, coworkers, and classmates. Gallozzi went on to say, “No, we are not responsible for all that happens to us, but we are responsible for how we think, feel and act when they happen” (Gallozzi, 2009, Para 1).…

Even though a person taking on too many responsibilities can lead to his or her downfall, personal responsibility can lead to success in higher education. Because responsibility is the force that binds an individual to the course of action demanded by the goal, personal responsibility can incur beneficial habits and admirable behaviors that will advocate successful outcome. The state of New York once sought to raise $24 million in donations to give to poor residents as an incentive to stay in school, stay at work, and stay on track (Traub, 2006). I will be revealing some examples, to implement, of personal responsibility and demonstrating how I intend to enact them in my own pursuit of higher education. The two tools that I will be discussing and relating to myself are planning and time management. I will also divulge how personal responsibility can be damaging and lead to unsuccessfulness.…

Personal responsibility means holding yourself accountable for our actions, owning up to our own behavior and dealing with the consequences, whatever they may be. In life, we cannot rely on other people to do things for us. It is so easy to blame the people around us when things go wrong, but ultimately it is up to me to determine whether or not I will succeed in life. Everyone has goals in life, but the only way to achieve them is to be realistic and set goals for themselves. Responsibility is more than just thinking or wanting to do something; it is about the actions that go along with those intentions. I love this quote from…

To me, taking responsibility for your own actions is similar to the phrase “you got to crawl before you can walk”. Owning up to your mistakes and actions, and realizing that you are in charge of your destiny isn’t an easy task because at this point, you just started to crawl. A lot of times we find ourselves falling back into that mind frame of doing just enough to get by and don’t realize that bad habits are hard to break. “Never grow a wishbone where a backbone should be.” This is a powerful quote from Clementine Paddleford as advice to his daughter. To show backbone, is to show determination and the same can be shown when taking responsibility for you. Wanting in life can also be like wishing and as it’s been said time and time again, wishes don’t always come true…

What does personal responsibility mean? To me personal responsibility means that I am responsible for what I choose in life. I have to hold myself accountable and cannot blame others for the choices I make. Jake Lawson wrote on the Livestrong.com website, “Accepting personal responsibility includes but is not limited to: acknowledging that you are solely responsible for the choices in your life and accepting that you are responsible for what you choose to feel or think” (Lawson, 2011). That statement is very profound and powerful. It is easy to place the blame on others but all that really does is hold us back from finding our true potential. We cannot use scapegoats to hide the fact that we possibly make bad decisions in life. Whichever direction my life heads, I am the captain of this ship and I cannot let others control what I do. I have control over my emotional responses to outside interference and must live with the consequences of my actions. In the Pacific Philosophical Quarterly 89 (Issue 4), 497-515, Dana Klein wrote ‘people are responsible when they act with the ability to do the right thing for the right reasons, or a good thing for good reasons.’(Klein, pg. 497) What exactly does that mean? It means that if we choose not to do the right thing or make bad decisions, they have not shown personal responsibility. I have to be willing to improve myself professionally, academically and personally in life. I can never be complacent or else I will never accomplish more and…

When working toward a successful life, personal responsibility is a vital cornerstone. The concept of personal responsibility is more than just being accountable for your mistakes, it involves being accountable for your actions at large, both to yourself and to others. When one is not willing to take responsibility for their own actions and advancement, the idea of personal growth becomes impossible. Accountability is the only path to true, lasting growth. In life, missteps and slip ups are inevitable, but without taking accountability for these they will just pass by as unheeded, missed opportunities to learn. Similarly, if one does not take personal responsibility for driving one’s own advancement, many opportunities will fall by the wayside and just drift by. Being truly honest with oneself and others about what you want and need is integral in establishing personal responsibility. This truth is the core of the “First Step Process,” which is outlined succinctly in Becoming a Master Student (Toft, 2011): “The First Step technique is simple: Tell the truth about who you are and what you want. End of discussion… The First Step is one of the most valuable tools in this book. It magnifies the power of all the other techniques. It is a key to becoming a master student.”…
