Personal Responsibility Essay Personal responsibility should be a priority for every able-minded adult. This is crucial when working towards accomplishing goals. Personal responsibility can be applied to college success and implementing a plan to achieve this type of responsibility is important.

An adult that wishes to be a productive member of society needs to implement personal responsibility into their life. Personal responsibility means having a sense of discipline and self control without the influence of distractions from outside sources. Adults are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives. One of them is the fact that there are far less authority figures, such as parents, that enforce you to do things that you do not want or feel the need to do. Your actions and daily routine are solely dependent on one's free will. Keeping track of your daily routine is a great way to monitor what tasks are wasting time away so that a person can better manage their activity throughout the day (Pagana 1994).

Personal responsibility is important when accomplishing goals. The majority of able-minded adults have goals that they wish to fulfill whether they are small, large, short-term or long-term. Any goal that a person makes can only be achieved by carrying out specific tasks. If a person does not have enough will power and self discipline to perform these tasks, their goal may not become attainable or will take much longer than they originally anticipated.

College success and personal responsibility go hand in hand. In high school, most of our parents were constantly on our cases to make sure that our behavior in school was acceptable and our schoolwork was completed sufficiently. Hwangbo (1991) confirms this by stating, I learned that it's all part of a continuum-high school practices affect college performance, and college performance molds job

A car may have all of the necessary components to run; an engine, transmission, wheels, etc., but without fuel, the car will go nowhere. No matter how good all of the parts of the car seem to be, without fuel, the car will not move. In the case of college success, personal responsibility is the fuel. Just as a car goes nowhere without fuel, college success cannot happen without personal responsibility. We as adults are responsible to take care of what needs done for each task that we take on for that day. If we are not responsible for what we do, we will not get what needs accomplished for that day. Responsible also means that we take account for our actions, no matter how big or how small the problem may be, and facing the consequences, results, and the outcome that your actions create. When people hear the word “responsibility,” they do not truly realize that it is easier than they think, and it comes naturally. “The power behind taking responsibility for your actions lies in putting an end to negative thought patterns. You no longer dwell on what went wrong or focus on whom you are going to blame. You don't waste time building roadblocks to your success. Instead, you are set free and can now focus on succeeding.” ― Lorii Myers…
