Personal responsibility is to have respect for themself and others around us. Responsibilities are where we take care of what needs done. Either in our personal lives, work, and in school. We as adults are responsible to take care of what needs done for each task that we take on for that day. If we are not responsible for what we do, we will not get what needs accomplished for that day. Responsible also means that we take account for our actions, no matter how big or how small the problem may be, and facing the consequences, results, and the outcome that your actions create. When people hear the word “responsibility,” they do not truly realize that it is easier than they think, and it comes naturally. “The power behind taking responsibility for your actions lies in putting an end to negative thought patterns. You no longer dwell on what went wrong or focus on whom you are going to blame. You don't waste time building roadblocks to your success. Instead, you are set free and can now focus on succeeding.” ― Lorii Myers…

What does personal responsibility mean? To me personal responsibility means that I am responsible for what I choose in life. I have to hold myself accountable and cannot blame others for the choices I make. Jake Lawson wrote on the Livestrong.com website, “Accepting personal responsibility includes but is not limited to: acknowledging that you are solely responsible for the choices in your life and accepting that you are responsible for what you choose to feel or think” (Lawson, 2011). That statement is very profound and powerful. It is easy to place the blame on others but all that really does is hold us back from finding our true potential. We cannot use scapegoats to hide the fact that we possibly make bad decisions in life. Whichever direction my life heads, I am the captain of this ship and I cannot let others control what I do. I have control over my emotional responses to outside interference and must live with the consequences of my actions. In the Pacific Philosophical Quarterly 89 (Issue 4), 497-515, Dana Klein wrote ‘people are responsible when they act with the ability to do the right thing for the right reasons, or a good thing for good reasons.’(Klein, pg. 497) What exactly does that mean? It means that if we choose not to do the right thing or make bad decisions, they have not shown personal responsibility. I have to be willing to improve myself professionally, academically and personally in life. I can never be complacent or else I will never accomplish more and…

Personal responsibility is just that-being responsible for his or her actions, decisions, and life in general. We have educators in our life to guide and teach us how to accomplish something, but it is you that will put that knowledge to use and mold your life. Personal Responsibility is maintaining the knowledge of my commitments (school, family or personal); it is to know what I need to follow-thru on those commitments and ensuring that my best effort is put forth in everything I do. It is admitting my shortcomings as stated in chapter one of Becoming a Master Student and taking the proper steps to improve them (Ellis 2011). Ellis (2011), states that the first key technique is to “Tell the truth about who you are and what you want” (p. 25). Personal responsibility can vary from person to person; values, priorities, and culture can all play a part in how you view your responsibilities.…
