It helped provide me with a sense of direction, peace of mind, and a much needed decrease in stress. Honestly, while I was getting the smart and focus two assignment done I imagined myself setting up different types of goals and not achieving any of them. The reason I predicted this was because usually when set an objective for myself it usually backfires as a result of me not being very motivated. Nevertheless, I gave these tasks a chance to hopefully learn new strategies for the future to manage my academic and, in the long run, my career. In addition while I usually fail at achieving my goal I hoped that this new strategy would help me create a more realistic goal.…

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

One professional goal I have created using the SMART criteria is getting my school loan paid off. Paying the loan is the specific part. It is possible to achieve that goal. My goal is attainable and it is realistic. And it can get done on time with proper budgeting and planning. The Career Interest Profiler contributed to my professional goal development by showing me that it is more difficult to work in the social worker field then I suspected. But I learned with my bachelors other types of jobs I can go for such as youth counselor and probation officer, which intrigued me. So I know I have other options in case the social work isn’t for me, my degree can be used elsewhere.…

The SMART goals are pretty helpful when planning goals. It’s about how specific your goals need to be, because you need to know what you really want and when, it also talks about your goals need to be measurable, attainable, that is to say you need to make sure your goals are achievable, you have to be sure on what you really want, you have to feel confident on what you choose. Time is also important when setting goals. You do not have to rush yourself. Your goals need to be relevant, but if you rush yourself you’ll set them wrong. Well here I stand , with the accomplishment of at least half my personal goals . I finished high school , left the small town , attended college and received not one, but three degrees . The object of goal setting is to make sure the goals are attainable and realistic (Le, 2013). The personal goals I have set for myself are to complete the coursework and dissertation for this DBA program , by December 2016. In order to achieve these goals , I must do my best in the coursework assignments , work on becoming a better writer , and continue to stay focused and determined . According to Uttley (1998), “Long-term goals can be broken down into two parts . Conceptual, which are your wants and needs , and operational, which are the steps you take to meet those wants and needs (p. 2). The professional experience I have come from customer service within the retail industry and student financial services , within the twoyear college system . A part of me has always wanted to journey to the other side of things with the college system . Instead of dealing with students on a daily basis , I want to make the decisions that affect the college but benefit the students . I could be a Director of a department within the…

Conducting a time analysis was a pretty eye opening experience for me. I analyzed my time from Saturday 6/15 through Friday 6/21. As a family man, the fact that I spend a great deal of my time, over half, during the course of a week working and sleeping is somewhat unsettling (see Figure 1 – Weekly Time Analysis). I spend an average of 55 hours per week working, a minimum of 11 hours each day, 5 days a week. I slept approximately 5-6 hours per night, a total of 40 hours for the week. The combination of the two is about 56.5% of my week’s time. Studying took up around 20 hours or approximately 12 %. I spent 7 hours in my car during the week, which was to and from work for the most part. Family time, eating, and recreation was a total of 43 combined hours or 25.6%. “Other” consisted of a handful of other activities and was about 3 hours of my week. Seeing how few hours I actually spend with my family doesn’t sit well. Yet, knowing I work the long hours I do for the betterment of my family makes it all worth it.…

My educational goal is to attend Western Oregon University and graduate with a bachelors degree in biology. I want to major in biology because my goal is to become a dentist. After graduating from Western Oregon University I will apply to a dental school to earn a dental degree. During my college career I will work hard to maintain a high grade point average just like I have in high school. My goal for high school was to get a 4.0 all through high school so that I could be the valedictorian. I was able to achieve this by doing my homework every night and studying tirelessly. There was times when I thought that I wasn't going to be able to accomplish this. For example, this year I am taking AP physics and I have always struggled with science…
