When there are no words to say, music helps express feelings. There’s always a song that a person can relate to. Each song has a distinct message to it that differentiates it from others. The lyrics of a song are what allow the listener to make a connection with the artist and song. What does music mean to you? Has music helped you through a difficult situation? Everybody handles things in different ways. In my life, music has always served two purposes: it keeps me busy while working on either homework or any task and it allows me to let go of feelings I have been harboring. Music is separated into different genres, based on the unique composition, style, and content. The song I have picked that relates to Aristotle’s three appeals, logos, pathos, and ethos, is “Say Something” by A Great Big World. This song has been close to my heart recently due to a breakup I have experienced. The message of “Say Something” is evident through the lyrics. The message throughout the song is saying that although you may love someone, that doesn’t guarantee the relationship will last. You can love someone deeply and truly care about him or her, but understand that it may be time to move on. Have you ever wanted something so much but you knew it wasn’t going to happen? The thing that helps me is knowing that I’m living for God, and I have to trust in His plan for me. It’s hard giving up on something you want so badly. Even though you may know that its time to say goodbye, actually saying the words is the hardest part. As humans, we want what we can’t have. When we want something so badly, it’s hard to let go.
