Personal Narrative: Yohan Blake
For most athletes, it takes hard work and effort to become successful; for others it may come natural so they do not have to work as hard. Usain Bolt, who is a 9 times Olympic Champion, has the natural ability to run track. As a result, he is not forced to work as hard as other track athletes such as Yohan Blake. While Blake is still just as successful, he must put in twice the work of Usain to reach his full potential. Like Yohan Blake, I am one of the people who has to put in hard work and effort to reach my full potential.
As a child, almost any activity is interesting besides staying inside of the house all day. I was an active child growing up. I participated in a wide variety of activities for multiple years such as: dancing, karate, cheerleading, and softball. When I entered middle school, I decided it was time to try something new. Basketball tryouts were coming up and I felt like I would enjoy the new experience. I ended up making the team, but halfway into the season I decided basketball was not the sport for me. A couple months later, track posters smothered the hallways encouraging students to join the team. I raced home and mentioned joining the team to my mother who then told me to try it out and see if I liked it. I went to the

My last event was the 200 meter dash and as I got set in my blocks my heart pounded. I was beyond nervous but I knew I had a point to prove. The race started and as I was running the only thing on my mind was crossing the finish line with a new and improved personal record. As I finished, I was out of breath and everything seemed blurry but all I could hear was my coach screaming in excitement. I heard him yell at the top of his lungs, “PR, You did it! I knew you could do it!” The entire night I thought back on my past and could not believe I had just ran the best time I ever had in four

Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

I chose to write about Usain Bolt for my fitness expert. My first reason for choosing him is because I consider Bolt to be the epitome of physical fitness. He excels in all five components of fitness - being the proud owner of one of mankind’s most sculpted bodies; he has flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, body composition, muscular endurance and strength. Another reason I have chosen Bolt is because…

1st of all I think Ty Dooley did a great job speaking at the panel and really made look at things from a totally different prospective. Something that I’ve taken away from him during the event is even after we leave this diverse university environment it is up to each and every single one of us to keep the conversations going and regardless of the good and bad going on around us we should never forget about our heritage and background regardless of where that might possible be. Something else that he made me think is that if we choose to forget about history then it would surely repeat itself. I personally will take his advice by not being scared to speak up about certain issues within the university and even a larger community, I also learned…

When I was in second grade I learned that I loved competing with people and being good at things. I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. It was a scorching hot October day in Palatine, Illinois. As my team and I warmed up for our cross country race we could feel the sun fry us. The Palatine Meet of Champions is always a competitive meet and this was the last time I would toe the line there. I was nervous. Thoughts started rushing through my head and I tried to stay calm. As the day went on, it was time to go to the line and start the race. Right before the gun went off;, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I visualized success. The gun went off and I bolted for the bottleneck. As we came to the last mile, I was in great position. I started making my way to the front and I felt like I was flying. Although I did not win, I placed fifth against many nationally ranked runners. I felt like I was on top of the world. At that moment I knew I wanted to pursue the dream of running collegiately. Later that week, I received a call from Coach Chorny from Miami University telling me that he would like me to run as a RedHawk. I was hooked after my official visit and later that month, I signed my letter of intent. My journey was set to continue.…

It had been six years! Six years since my father had tricked my family into going into his perfect science experiment. My father was completely crazy, a maniac, once I realized it was only an experiment I was furious, outraged at what he had done to us. Forced us into some hole in the ground and locked it up telling us there was a nuclear fallout outside, and we wouldn't go back for fifteen years. My father is Rex Yanakakis, founder of YK Industries, maniac, and builder of my hell, he is extremely rich so he had plenty of money to build the compound. The compound was his attempt to survive a “nuclear fallout “ I later learned there was no fallout and everyone thought we were dead. We are not dead,…

I never thought anyone would actually ask me ‘’ who are you’’ or make me write about it. I would’ve probably laughed it off and make some weird joke or pray I have a heart attack. I don’t really question myself, I just do anything without thinking and it usually ends up either okay or horribly screwed up. Honestly, I’m fine with who I am and that’s a weird awkward mess. I like to say I’m not a complex person. I’m not one of those teenagers that think life is out to get them. I know what I want and no one can stop me except Dylan O'Brien. Then I am hundred percent sure I’ll probably stop whatever I’m doing and start planning my wedding with that beautiful human.…
