Personal Narrative: When WAL-MART Changed My Occupation
When WAL-MART changed my hours, it caused me to have Public transpiration issues. The employment opportunity was in the Dallas/Richardson area, and I live in the South Dallas area. There are a morsel of opportunities for travel in early morning hours. It caused me to be tardy on numerous occasions. I learned from my mistakes by working in the Dallas area exclusively.

I worked three hours on Sunday 8/23/2015 at Old Navy as a cashier. Cashiering is quickly becoming one of my favorite jobs. Before I was sent to register 3, I had to go through some ethics training about Old Navy's zero harassment policy. I have had to do similar training for another job I had so this was nothing new. At the register, I faced some normal challenges a cashier faces on a average day from the computer running slow to the credit card reader not working. During this work day, I was given a new challenge and responsibility of wearing a walkie talkie earpiece. I have never used one before and it was pretty exciting to learn this new skill. With this machine, I can hear the mangers and other select employees that have a walkie. I had…

Managing to break free from my mother’s grasp, I charged. With arms flailing and chubby legs fluttering beneath me, I was the ferocious two year old rampaging through Costco on a Saturday morning. My mother’s eyes widened in horror as I jettisoned my churro; the cinnamonsugar rocket gracefully sliced its way through the air while I continued my spree. I sprinted through the aisles, looking up in awe at the massive bulk products that towered over me. Overcome with wonder, I wanted to touch and taste, to stick my head into industrialsized freezers, to explore every crevice. I was a conquistador, but rather than searching the land for El Dorado, I scoured aisles for free samples. Before inevitably being whisked away into a shopping cart, I…

Being a manager in south Florida area there are about five to seven different type of people from different areas around the world. Critics and groups everywhere are lining up to take shots at this global giant and destroy its image. Some of Wal-Mart’s current challenges can be seen in daily operations, its internal and external environment, product sourcing, healthcare, wages, communities, diversity, employee benefits, and social challenges. A social norm is the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society. People who go against the social norm may be shunned or looked at as a bad person. For my social norm breaching experiment, I decided to dress up as a hospital patient that had just been released from the hospital and walk around Wal-Mart. My mom is a registered nurse at the Baptist Memorial Hospital, so she was able to get me the materials that I needed to conduct the experiment. I decided to do this at Wal-Mart, because of the people that go in there. However, I didn’t conduct this experiment at the Wal-Mart in my hometown. I knew that less people would catch on to the operation if they didn’t recognize me. There is always a variety of people in every Wal-Mart across America, so I speculated that I would get a lot of responses and/or emotions from several different people that didn’t know me personally. I only…

In July 2, of 1962 the first Wal-Mart opened in Rogers, Arkansas (Kuhlken para.5). It was founded by the Walton brothers Sam and J. L. (Bud). Wal-Mart's concept involved huge stores offering customers a wide variety of name-brand goods at deep discounts that were part of an "everyday low prices" strategy (“Saving people money” para.5).Early in the 1970s, Walton implemented his warehouse distribution strategy. The company built its own warehouses so it could buy in volume and store the merchandise. This practice cut Wal-Mart's costs and gave it more control over operations because merchandise could be restocked as quickly as it sold and advertising was specific to smaller regions and cost less to distribute (“Saving people money” para.7).…

Through writing my exploratory essay I made some discoveries. I learned that the corporation Walmart employs one percent of the American workforce. It is the largest employer in the United States. This means that most everyone is going to know someone who works for Walmart if they aren’t the ones working there themselves. Since so many people have close ties to this large group of employees, word of their treatment spreads quickly. Walmart holds the reputation of not treating their employees the best and not paying them a living wage. Through additional research, I would like to find out why Walmart does not properly cater to their employees.…

There are many places that I like to go and shop, look or to just hang out. There is one store in particular that tops them all and it is Wal-Mart. There are several pros and cons about Wal-Mart but we will go over three of them ,two pros and one con. The first pro is they are a one stop shop and they have almost everything you could need. The second pro is that many of their prices are very low and very helpful to a college student as well as many other people. From my perspective there is only one con, it takes forever to check out most of the time because there are many employees working in other areas, but only one or two cashiers. This place can be your best friend or your worst nightmare at the same time.…

I realized that every morning I drive to work I basically arrive there the same time, however, there are some days when I arrive earlier and others that I arrive later. I have about a thirty-minute drive to my work; I even went on Google maps to see how long it would take me to get there. I was worried about being late for work and wanted to know how much time I should leave for getting to work on time. I had measured the amount of time it takes me to get to work in the morning for 1 month; documenting how much time it took each day.…
