Personal Narrative: What I Learned About Myself
One time I took a leadership role that was the most relevant to me was when I was the leader in my robotics team in high school. I needed to take the role because everyone else seemed lost and I was the only one with previous robotics experience so I told everyone if they mid if I become the group leader and no one minded. One thing I learned about myself by being the leader is I am very good at giving people specific jobs and keeping everyone on task without them getting distracted. Another thing I learned about myself is i am a strict yet fun leader because I know when its time to stop playing around and get to

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

I don’t know how to begin to define myself in order for you to understand who I truly am. I believe there is more to a person than stories that mould us into who we are today; like when one asks, “Tell me your story," I don’t think about that time when my family broke into two or that time I was diagnosed with my mental illnesses. I think of coffee, because coffee is bitter and bitter people drink coffee, sad people; people with heavy hearts and heavy footsteps, with tangled thoughts, people with anxiety and words left unspoken, people like me. Lonely people drink coffee. I think of the world map I have in my room with thumbtacks marking every country I want to visit. I think of foreign languages, and how beautiful it sounds when words form…

My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Learning from mistakes is a key part of life. I myself have had to learn from my mistakes. Over the summer I cut my foot outside. I spent the whole night in the worst hospital, then I got 18 stitches in the bottom of my foot. It also set back my ability to play football. My mistake was going outside without shoes, now I wear my shoes all the time.…

A major theme in my life is improvement. I challenge myself to take risks and set high expectations for myself. For instance, I strive to run faster and for longer distances every couple of times I approach the treadmill belt. I am obstinate about my minimum distance, 2.2 miles, and my minimum speed, 6.8. A major component of improving myself is learning. Every new word is a miniscule enhancement of my massive English vocabulary pool, but it is still a step in the right direction. I enjoy becoming more knowledgeable in both domestic and international affairs. I wish I could have more time to pour into reading current event and health articles. I am particularly attached to drumming the latest scientific discovery or innovate biotechnology product…

The results also state, that I tend to establish routines and procedures, prefer to maintain the status quo, and want a secure and predictable work environment I beg to differ, as a child growing up to present, I dare to be different, I never follow the crowd. I challenge the crowd. I like taking risks to some degree. I am not an extremist; however, I will venture out to the unknown. If I am not comfortable with the group or the conversation I will voice my opinion on why I will not be a part of the group and/or the conversation. To a certain degree I like to make a good impression, I believe it stems from the culture I grew up in; there is a high expectation for respect. Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader. These past couple weeks have been the most nerve-wrecking and exciting weeks of my life. Coming to college is a lot like being thrown into a jungle. All of the resources you need to survive are there, but most of the time you have to find them on your own. Every resource I could possibly need is here for me at the University of Iowa, but I have to go out on my own to find them and utilize them. Throughout my first few weeks of college, I have found there to be three main differences: privacy, work ethic, and time management.…
