Personal Narrative: Welcome Rudy Ruettiger
Sixth grade was nearing the end - my cousin who attended St. Joseph Central Catholic in Fremont, Ohio was signed up to serve a dinner for a fund raiser they were holding. They were in need of extra help so my cousin asked me to help out. The attraction to get people to attend the dinner was the guest speaker, who at the time I had know idea who it was and didn't even ask. I needed service hours for Confirmation so I told my cousin I would help.

Upon arrival, the banner at the entrance read "Welcome Rudy Ruettiger". I couldn't believe what I was reading. My heart started racing! This was someone I had always admired and now I get to hear him speak.

It was my late Grandfather who introduced me to the story of Rudy. He bought me the movie because he knew my love for Notre Dame and football. Watching the movie weekly for years became a ritual in my family household. The more I watched the movie, the more I started to adapt to Rudy's ways. We actually had a lot it common. My parents have always instilled to my siblings and I that hard work and determination will prevail.

It was that night I learned about the college. As my father and I always parked at the Holy Cross campus to go to the football games I really liked the feel of everything and could one day picture myself on these grounds. One thing that I always liked about this college was that, it was not too big or too small it was just right and fit me well. Every time my dad and I needed directions or short cuts to the games, many of the times it was the Holy Cross students and they were very polite and helpful. Another thing that I had always planned to do when I go to college was do my best to make it to a catholic college because my faith is what shapes me and is what makes me the hardworker and persistent person I am. If accepted into Holy Cross not only would it be an honor but I would take great pride and do everything I can to

Family dramas are created in films that are made up of the realistic characters. The character will often play the part of a real life, delivering their history on film. Often, it is the events that have occurred throughout someone’s life, telling the intimate details in a story of someone’s life. In the case of “Rudy”, all of this film was based on the true events of Daniel (Rudy) Ruettiger. Being a family drama, this tells viewers that this film can be seen and understood in an easy way. The comforts of knowing there is no violence is lacked in family dramas. Although most of the movie’s plot was about football, and even though the majority of the movie was shot on location at the Notre Dame stadium, screenwriter, Angelo Pizzo never thought of it as being a sports movie. Pizzo stated, "Sports is a metaphor. Unlike most sports stories, it 's not about the state championship team or a great athlete. It 's really about the last guy on the bench. For a player with Rudy 's ability to actually get on the field for 27 seconds is in some ways a more significant accomplishment than a gifted athlete throwing three touchdown passes in one game" (Rudy Details, n.d.). This film was more of a motivational film for everyone who viewed it. It tells a story of strength and determination, and most of all it tells that one should never give up on their…

The service that I did with the poor was at St. Vincent De Paul. I took the bus with a friend after school on a random Thursday with Ms. Reuter driving the bus, which I didn’t expect her to know how to do at all. It was my first time working there, because I had only worked at the distribution center the year before for confirmation. When we arrived we all signed in and they put the people who had been there before in their normal locations. My friend and I got split up, with me in charge of sorting all of the donated canned foods and my friend went over to move pallets around. While I was working with one of the staff there, I made friends with some freshmen that were also working with me. They started calling me silly names like “broth boy” because at some point I got in charge of sorting canned broths.…

The movie "Rudy" was a true story of a young man who overcame all odds and played football for Notre Dame. Rudy's obsession with Notre Dame came from his father. His father would always make his children watch Notre Dame football games and if anyone ever suggested another football game on television, the father would say that they only watch one team in his house. What Rudy's father did is an example of the sharing of socialization process. The father raised his children to only watch Notre Dame football. However, Rudy was the only son that dreamt of going to Notre Dame and playing football for them. His two brothers would constantly pick on him because he was the youngest and would constantly tell him that he is too small. Rudy is a motivational movie in which the topics of the ability to comprehend the power of dreams and the triumph of the common person who strives to overcome and addresses one’s need to persevere despite obstacles and rejection. We watched this film in class from January 31, 2012 until February 2, 2012. Daniel Eugene “Rudy” Ruettiger grew up in Jolet, Ohio and was one of fourteen children. He always had a passion for football and played for his high school team at Holy Cross Junior College. His major dream was to go to Notre Dame, which eventually became true after being rejected from there 3 times. While doing his studies, he was informed that he had dyslexia, but he pushed through this difficulty and maintained a B-average in college with determination and sacrifice. Rudy was not on the actual football team at Notre Dame, he was on the practice team. He dreamt of a day that he could run out the tunnel and sit-in on one game, but he was only 5’6’’ and 165 pounds. Most of the football players on the team were twice his size, but he studied the game, and when he finally got a chance to play at a real game his tackle was a major success. This was a result of studying, paying attention, and taking each game seriously. Because of Rudy’s determination, five of his brothers went on to college and received degrees, which is very significant, coming from a family where no one furthered their education. Most importantly, no other player has ever been carried off the field since 1975. Rudy’s personal pursuit of happiness resulted in making him a legacy, maybe even a legend. I believe this movie was produced to inspire someone to follow their own dreams and aspirations, using Rudy as an example. A major aspect emphasized by the film is no matter what the odds are, you can overcome them. You can make it no matter what; a person can find a way. Also, success will not come easily; Struggle must happen to earn your dream. Just like Rudy, we can also achieve our dreams and…
