When I envision my lifetime goals I picture two things, a pristine white lab coat and a humanitarian award. The lab coat represents my goal to become a medical doctor and my hope to be involved with major medical research throughout my lifetime. The award symbolizes my dream to be recognized as a person who adhered a monumental impact on the world whether it be through heroic volunteerism or through inventing innovative methods that can be utilized in aiding the less fortunate. Although, I plan to achieve both of these goals later in the future I am working towards them today with my involvement in extra- curricular activities.…
A personal quality that is important to me is my willingness to try new things. This quality did not surface until I graduated high school-- I felt somewhat restricted during those years. After my first semester at community college the eagerness to explore new activities, and learn about new topics began to appear. Because of this quality-- a quality that can sometimes hide amongst the rest-- I would not have discovered by passion for my desired major.…
My two core values are Family and Faith. My top priorities in life are God and my family. It wasn't hard for me to choose my top two core values because I know that with God and my family I am able to achieve the other things. My family were the first people to provide me with love, happiness, friendship, and wisdom. They have been here for me every step of the way and as I am getting older, everything I strive to be and to do is ultimately to help them and make them proud. Faith is very important to me and that is something that my family has taught and instilled in me. Everything I do is for the approval of God. I have learned that hat God has for me is for me. Therefore, I am able to achieve success, peace, status, and wealth if that is…
American climate scientist, Mark Caine, exclaims, “The first step toward success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself”. Beginning my high school career, I thought high school would be an easy transition because I was accustomed to getting good grades in grammar school, so I did not put as much of an effort as I could have in my studies. The first biology test arrived, and I thought I was knowledgeable on the subject matter so I briefly looked over the material. Approximately a week later I got my test back and I was not satisfied with my grade. That happened for most of my first tests in each of my classes. I learned I would not be satisfied with my grades if I continued to keep those…
As an avid reader, I always understood and appreciated what it took to get that story to print. Especially since I always found it so difficult to take the ideas from head and articulate that point whether it be written or verbal. As the five weeks have passed I am becoming more aware of what my challenges and my strengths are in my writing.…
In life, we all have goals. My main goals are set based on my academics and then I have my personal goals. If one does not set high standards, then what will one have to strive for?…
Our beliefs are what drive everyone’s attitudes, values, and ultimately behaviors at work. Core beliefs can originate from a negative or positive place. My own core beliefs developed from my childhood and through my life experiences. I must prove I am good, strong and brave. I must prove that I am not weak, worthless, or dependent. I believe in forfeit my own needs in the service of others. If I don’t, I often feel guilty, and compensate by putting the needs of others ahead of their own. I believe I am responsible for the happiness of very close friends and family members. These core beliefs rooted in responsibility self-sacrifice come from having to take responsibility for family members in my youth, such as taking care of my brother and sister while my mother was at work or checking up on my grandmother while she’s home alone.…
My five dominant themes were deliberative, context, strategic, responsibility, and analytical. I wasn’t surprised by any of these strengths, especially they seemed to describe myself quite well. I feel like these strengths are quite consistent with myself, especially the deliberative and context themes. The deliberative theme is most like me because I am a serious person who is very careful and proceeds with caution when doing things. This theme also mentions how life is not a popularity contest, which is something I most certainly agree with, because I do not necessarily care if someone likes me or not. The context themes looks at the past in order to progress into the future. I use past events as reference of what I should do, and when I don’t have a past reference I am very careful in whatever I do next, because I don’t know what will follow.…
Bam! I heard the crash as the front gate slammed behind me as I it shut behind me. I sprinted back to the car and my mom told me,”Only five more minutes Blake.” Me, my parents, and my brother and sister were headed to our annual family reunion at my cousin's ranch. We were on the final part of our drive, and this is always the favorite part of the drive.…
During my five years of service at Comet Cleaners, I experienced a lot of joy, satisfaction, highs, lows and respect for the job I did and the people I worked with and served on a daily basis. Later, after I had been on board for about two years they sent in a new manager Mrs. Brenda Burns to replace Shonda Johnson and things as we knew it were changing. We had our fair share of good and bad days from machine breakdowns,…
“Connecting with my core” begins by taking the time to develop a deep connection with my personal core. Spending time determining my purpose, values, and intentions will provide me with the foundation needed to ground my decision making as an administrator. Learning to be true to me, relying on and trusting this foundation when making decisions during easy times and when things get tough, leads to consistent and courageous leaders. Once I have made a connection with my personal core, it’s time to lead stakeholders through a process of developing their core. Organizing small “coffee-house” style gatherings is one approach that could be used in this district. The district already has active parent and booster groups, which would make a great…
Who helps you and is always there for you? For me it is my mom, Pam, because she has helped me through the ups and downs of my life, for all 13 years. Pam has lots of knowledge on many topics one of which is volleyball. She played for 26 years before I was born. She took 12 years of my life off until I finally asked her to be my coach. Pam Newberry has shared her wisdom and experience with me by being my coach, being an amazing parent, and having a positive outgoing look on life.…
I come from a low-income, single parent, immigrant household. My life hasn’t been the easiest, but the challenges I faced growing up that most shaped who I am today weren’t from any external factors. They were within me.…
Seriously, does anyone ever read it? I mean, was there an incident when someone really liked someone’s portfolio but said: “mmm… what about this about? I don’t think so”.…
Picking out things that shaped who are can be difficult to decide on. More often than not, several things played into it throughout the space of your entire life. For example, my family has been a huge part of making me who I am, but since they have always been there, I would not exactly call them a life changing event. Rather, I’d call them a part of who I am, because when they are affected, then I am affected, and vice versa. So, when I take out all the fluff and the additional smaller events, I was left with these special occasions. My life has been shaped by three major events which are moving from Nampa to Idaho Falls, the schools I went to and the friends I made there, and making the basketball team.…
