Personal Narrative-The Slope On The Hill
The Slope on The Hill
It was the most casual winter day of the year. My body under a blanket, Hot chocolate in one hand and a T.V. Remote in the other. I was flipping from channel to channel trying to find a show that I could settle on. My eyes were glued to the bright screen, although I could see each and every snowflake falling out of the sky. It was hard not to admire. Here in Michigan, We have the most beautiful winters, and the nicest of summers. I love to diversity that comes with all the weather rather than having a dreaded summer all year like in Florida, and a harsh year round winter like Alaska. The hot chocolate that I had just whipped up was still scorching hot and was burning my lips after every sip. The whipped cream helped dim the chocolates temperature. After searching almost every channel, I decided that I should just watch some ESPN. I usually didnt watch ESPN that often because they often report the same things over and over. I remember once when I was about 10 years old and Rob Gronkowski was injured. One day I saw that they were

“Shure, what time should I meet you there?”
“How about 3:00?”
“Okey Dokey, See you there!”
Well, lets see, its 2:24 right now so I could get my bag packed with all the necessary gear, and then I could bike there and be right in time. I was packing my Camel Back bag with snow pants, a winter jacket, and a foldable sled. I packed all that up in about two minutes, then hopped on my bike right away. I had to ride over on my brothers bike because my tires we worn out and popped. Each and every snowflake was so clear and beautiful. They were flooding the streets and sidewalks and roofs of houses. When I was even younger than I am right now, it was hard to appreciate the beauty that came with every

The recent summer rainstorms have transformed the roadways, of Wrongberight a rural hamlet on the eastern shores of Virginia, into a never-ending slip and slide. Late Saturday afternoon, vivacious Clemmy Sue Jarvis, a petite woman of sixty three, cautiously pulled out of her driveway, and slowly turned south on to Flat Bottom Road. She maneuvered the rain soaked road with great care. Nevertheless, fifty yards from her dearest friend Estelle Louise’s long dirt driveway, her rusty Chevy pickup, that she has kept mobile for years with hairpins, bubble gum, and duct tape, skidded across a massive oil slick. As a result, the pickup spins in wide circles as…

Climbing into the lime green car, my fear was over taking me. I was getting ready to ride the Titan, an adrenaline pumping roller coaster ride at Six Flags. It was easily the scariest ride at the park, in my opinion, with its enormous peaks, its deep descents, and double helix like turns was enough to make me sick. The ride began. Ascending up in the car on the canary yellow track, into the humidity filled, bright sky, the people observing from below resembled little army ants . The aerial view of Dallas was breathtaking, as I reached the peak of the ride and looked around. Passengers occupying the cars in front of me started falling off, like a cliff. I let out a high-pitched shrill, as we plummeted toward the Earth below. Traveling…

A hill of aspens, glowing golden, shines on the right side of the trail while the left side is a pine-covered hill. Between the two is the trail, a magical escape from reality. This is my sanctuary of Buffalo Peaks wilderness. The trying experience of hiking through the mountains with 40 pounds on your back, the straps of your pack rubbing the skin off your hips and shoulders. The tension building in your muscles as you struggle under the weight. The pain that can only be diluted by a yoga session and a trip to the hot springs. Sun salutations in a lush, meadow valley. Warrior one and reverse warrior in the heat of the sun, relaxing from the miles we traveled just the day before.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

We got there and set up teams and started to throw the snowballs. As soon as we started the icy wind hit me like a ton of bricks falling from a ten story building. I ran next to a tree and splat! I got hit in the face with the white, fluffy, snowball. By this time my face was about to fall off because of the frigid temperature. After that we went sledding down a hill for a little bit. About ten or twenty minutes later we grabbed the sleds so we could go play a snowball fight again.…

I remember when I was 10 years old; there was a snowstorm out at my Grandma and Grandpa Roberts's house. The snow was higher than my head in some places, and it was so high that my brother and I could go sledding off the snow banks. The snow was almost two feet deep in my grandma's yard, which made it difficult to walk up to their two story white house. When we did get inside, the warmth of the house consumed me, and the sweet smell of my grandma's delicious baked goodies was everywhere.…
