Personal Narrative: The Person I Have Become
The Person I Have Become
“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”
“A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.”
~St. Thomas Aquinas
To summarize St. Thomas Aquinas is saying that when you believe in something you do not need validation, but without faith nothing can validate your life, emotions and experiences. This quote resides with me because in my life faith isn’t something that I have always embraced, I find religion to sound unreal that Jesus magically healed people, I have always thought very black and white that without proof I question the parables and stories within the bible. This quote inspires me to remember to embrace my faith because God will validate my worries and skepticism.
The second quote also resides with me because a person can be an artist in whatever activity or profession they do, a neurosurgeon performing a craniotomy, an artist painting a portrait, a plumber fixing pipes, an accountant balancing a business or any other activity. This quote inspires me to

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is something I will take away from the course because it tells a story of something who was dealt the wrong hand and how no one helped until the good Samaritan, I think this story is in my life in a few ways the main one being that I love volunteering and helping at Brunchkins(a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding children breakfast and lunch for school), soon The Refuge, St. Vincent De Paul and other places. People all dealt the wrong hand with no one helping until they come to each of these places where they receive a helping

Thomas Aquinas, known for his rational beliefs in God. Aquinas states that, everything has a cause, nothing is its own cause, a chain of causes cannot be infinite, therefore there must be a first cause and god is the first cause. The first cause is described as a ‘necessary being’ also known as God. Aquinas does not believe in Infinite Regress as he believe God does not need an explanation. That sometimes ‘things just are’ we need something to believe that that something made us. But if that thing is the creator, what could of made him. That is the question. For example, something can’t be moved without something or someone moving it. That is the same as God. This theory encourages the reader to consider that there may actually be a God. How are we here? And why? God.…

My life has been shaped in a variety of ways but two car accidents in particular have come to define who I am today. I will begin when I was two years old. My father was involved in a terrible accident, which I cannot remember due to age; however, I can clearly recall the repercussions to this day. Though he avoided death, my father was handicapped to a point where he can no longer run or move in any quick fashion. As an athlete and father of three boys who loved sports, he was understandably devastated. Over the next few years through incredible perseverance and astounding resolve, my father taught me what it meant to be a man. I learned that life will deal you hapless situations over and over if you let it, and that these situations can only…

I am the 5 year-old who once cried at Disneyland because she was afraid of the Space Mountain rollercoaster. I am the 8 year-old who owned a puffy sticker collection and traded stickers with her classmates everyday. I am the 15 year-old who stayed up until 2am at night, trying to finish a project due the next day. When I ask myself who I am, I tend to reflect on my past experiences that made me who I am today. I'm made up of what I've been through- because without my past experiences, I wouldn't be who I am today. I'm constantly trying new things and unlocking more knowledge about myself, so I'll never know who I truly am. Lessons are still being learned, but what I know is that background is what makes me who I am right…

My identity consists of various simplistic series in the form of an everyday activities, negotiations, and transactions that idealizes my awareness of my own culture and the cultures of other individuals around me. With that being said, from a generalist descriptive perspective, I identify myself as Kelvin Kalue Jallayu. In addition to my birth name given to me by my parents, I often consider myself a heterosexual Krahn man. In other words, I feel like the black layer of my skin classifies me as a Black African American minority male in the American society. But, I perceive myself as a greater being than the minority tag placed upon me by society. During the course of this paper, I will identify and elaborate on my self-identity using the five…

Growing up a missionary kid, I think the question “who are you” has been more prevalent in my life than the average. Bouncing from place to place meant my home wasn’t a specific country and my family didn’t only include my relatives. Being constantly exposed to different environments, cultures, and people led me to really establish myself as an individual, with minimal ties to any one place or anyone else. My childhood also insured I grew up with a love for traveling, and a great appreciation of different cultures and ways of life. I learned from an early age that it is what makes us different that makes us special. As I grew up, I found myself aspiring to be different than my surroundings. I never really felt the need to fit in or conform because I was taught that the only person I really needed to be was myself. I was always told of how strong,…
