Personal Narrative-The Monkey's Paw
The Monkey’s Paw
It was a cold and windy night. I hear the man knock on a door. It opens and I hear the voice of a women and man. The man who’s pocket I’m in takes a seat. They begin chatting and catching up with each other. They began talking about me. I heard them say I’m a dangerous thing to play with. Nonsense! I bring no harm….on purpose. I simply take something valuable from the wisher, as he/she wishes for something valuable. After all, beggars can’t be choosers. I hear more bickering about myself but soon I snap out my thoughts when I feel myself becoming scorching hot. That man put me in the fireplace! No, No No! This can’t be the end! The heat leaves my body and I now feel myself being carried. The hand I’m in is much more softer

The author continues to build fear and suspense when the couple is waiting for something to happen. The house was eerily quiet as Mr. White tried to light a match. At the foot of the stairs, the match went out just as there was a knock at the door. Could it be the mutilated body of their dead son? It was a ferociously gloomy day in the heart of Center City. The time of the observation was from 11:43 am to 12:43pm. Sandwiched between 15th street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard is the Philadelphia's Municipal Services Building and within the plaza of the building lies Board Game Park. Even in the rain, the park was festive. Upon arriving, it began to drizzle. The drizzle was light enough for me to sit by a statue that was composed of multiple bodies piled on top of one another. The noises heard ranged from rain dropping, to horns honking to people laughing or shouting. In the surrounding area of the Board Game Park is Love Park with its remarkable LOVE sculpture and fountain, which was spewing pink water in support of Breast Cancer Awareness…

I remember a few months after I settled into Shanghai, my mother took me to a ballet class. Back when I lived in Australia, I adored my dance classes, so when I found out I was overjoyed. As we headed to the studio, I had on a leotard that a parent from Australia had made for me. It was a gorgeous rose pink and its nylon fabric reflected against the light, with that a smooth, lightweight chiffon skirt wrapped around my waist, below, typical ballerina tights. I steadily walked into the class in my itty- bitty ballet shoes. As the class began, I was nervous but yet a part of me was also excited. The class was utterly amazing; the room was filled with plies, tondus and grand battements. We crossed the room with jetes, a move that made me feel…

Starting from a place I remembered as a teen, moving from a place that was warm to a place that had all four seasons; such as winter, spring, summer and fall. The First place that I grew up was surrounded by mountains. During the winter it was full of white snow, something that I was never used to seeing coming from California where all one would see was sandy beaches and the waves clasping one another. As I remember being so new to Park City, UT all I could see was the wonderful views of trees, mountains and people skiing or snowboarding. I have to say this was a fond memory because for the firs time I was actually able to experience the feeling of what winter was…

As a child, I had a huge imagination. I would turn the recliner into Pride Rock and the backyard into a jungle. Through years, as we get older and we add adult responsibilities to our daily lives she has never lost that imagination I remember. Although her imagination has changed into more adult-like forms she has been a signpost in my life. When I watch her and listen to what she tells me I can see her wheels turning.
