Personal Narrative: The Jersey Shore
As you all vividly remember, the Jersey Shore took a pounding during Hurricane Sandy. The winds, flooding, and whipping sand plummet the shoreline and communities forever changing the landscape.
Some of you may not have gotten to appreciate this first hand. Maybe you do not have a house at the shore. Our two houses survived on the whole, but grasping the destruction and devastation, hit me in a way I never thought it could. I sensed in my heart that I was getting a glimpse into what transition feels like for an adopted child.
I thought about the day I spent waiting for the gas man in the dark, cold and unnatural surroundings of what used to be my community.
Let me explain…

    Jersey Shore, on MTV, is a wonderful model of reality television gone wrong. It is definitely one of the worst shows on TV, but has become one of the most popular. The cast of Jersey Shore reinforces negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans, and shows relationships and sex in an extremely negative light. Racial slurs are a part of everyday vocabulary, relationships are all about fighting and infidelity, and sexual activity is no big deal. The cast’s interactions with others show men and women negatively also. These images can have a negative effect on many of the shows young viewers.
