Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…

July 8, 1982, I murdered my first victim. Her name was Wendy Lee Coffield. She was only 16, just a runaway, probably dropped out of school. I strangled it with it’s own clothes. I dumped the body in the Green River. Like my favored outdoor sexual spots, these were some of the locations I also dumped these objects, what I like to refer to these outcast women as. Also in the Green River was the body of Debra Lynn Bonner, 23, Marcia Faye Chapman, 31, Cynthia Jean Hinds, 17, Opal Charmaine Mills, 16, Tracy Winston, 19.…

she played and started every game. The team was able to advance to nationals two out of the three years. Many memories were made with her teammates. One memory was at a home game, the gym was completely packed full of fans that supported Mesa university and the rival team, the Cardinals. Each year the two teams go to 5 five games, that are too close to call. The intensity in each one of the girls faces radiate and rub off onto the crowd. Mesa won the first two matches with little effort, then for the first time in the entire game the other girls started to hit the ball with power. The ball was bouncing off the blocks, out of bounds, serves were being served into the net. The team was falling apart. After the last time out was called and the…

Most of us walked through the front door of Lake Country between 8 and 9 years ago. Others of us came later whether it was 5 years ago or this year. The door we came through on the first day we came was the same door we continued to walk through almost every day, up until today. After tonight this might be the last time we walk through these doors, but some people will keep walking through them even after we leave Lake Country. The front dorrs aren’t just regular doors to us students, they are a gateway to all of the memories. These doors hold behind the first day of kindergarden, pictures that we colored with broken crayons and the place where we met our best friends. From the second grade aquarium trip to the Wizard of Oz play and the mideval…

I counted the number bottle caps in the kitchen today, it upset me how long I have been here and that no one from home has sent another ship for us yet. Every single day I drink a bottle of water and place my cap in a bowl carved of stone in the kitchen, I counted 467 today. A year-and-a-half I have been here, and no one has sent another ship. My crew and I knew it would most likely be a dead end mission, the ship was poorly built to begin with and the amount of fuel on Earth was just enough to get to Planet X, but questionable to get back. The supplies on Earth, from fuel to food are dwindling, and our species as we know it is running out of time. My crew came here to find a new home for the people on Earth, studies on this planet suggest…

It was the perfect day at the cottage; there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the temperature stayed in the thirty-degree range. Everyone was hustling around the cottage trying to prepare food and supplies for our canoe trip. The canoe trip was an annual tradition that we carried on for the past six years. I continued to pack burgers, hot dogs, salads, snacks, and drinks into coolers and brought them down to the dock. The canoes were packed and everyone had lathered on a pound of sunscreen, so we began our paddle out to Whiskey Island. It was a steep climb up sharp jagged rocks, but once at the top there were pine tress and dry yellow grass scattered all over. Once we got everything set up, we decided to go to the part of the island that you could…

I have seen horrible things. It has been three days since the Japanese bombed us. As you must already know, we are now at war with them. I was having breakfast when the first wave of planes flew began the assault. I don’t remember how many patients came in, or how many died. It’s all going so fast, it’s so surreal. Almost all the patients have burns all over their bodies. The black smoke and the smell of burning flesh will forever be carved into my memory. At night, us hospital staff have to work in nearly complete darkness. Black curtains were hung over windows at night and lights were kept low, reason being we are fearing yet another attack. So many lives have already been lost, but we are fighting to save as many as we can. Please do not…

Looking back now, it was all quite hilarious, but at the time, I was in a state of sheer panic. It all began late on Saturday evening when I was doing the routine check of the old boiler furnace in our Elliot Street residence in Saskatoon. We had a suite on the middle floor of a three-story rooming house owned by the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad. Rent was dirt cheap, but there was a long string attached and that was the care of “Old Fred.” the ancient boiler furnace in the basement. In the winter, Fred had to be topped up to the full level every three or four days. The College could not see its way clear to install an automatic water level control and so…

Once I was shredding potatoes when my hand slipped and I got a cut from the cheese grater. I was eleven and I was making hash browns. It happened in the evening when I was bored. After I cut myself I rushed to get a paper towel to stop the blood. I stood in the middle of the kitchen squeezing my finger hoping that the blood would stop. In the other room, my dad was watching football unaware I had cut myself. I was worried if I told him he would get mad at me because I wasn’t being careful. Then, I removed the towel but the blood kept on coming. I couldn't work up the courage to tell him.…

When I was about 12 years old I loved to ride my Haro bmx bike around my neighborhood a lot with my friend nick. Nick and I used to fix our own bikes and learn how to do it all ourselves. We would work on our bikes all day every day and take them apart and put them back together, we got so good at riding and fixing our bikes we fixed are bikes anywhere at any time or at least I thought so. One day during the summer of freshman year nick and i went for a ride to the park down the street from my house to play soccer. After we played soccer at the park for a while we decided to go to nicks house to play video games and get something to drink. So as were riding back to nicks house my chin felt a little loose so I thought it was a good idea to try and fix it while I was riding. I put my in on my chain while riding the bike and my hand got stuck in the chain and I couldn’t get it out and the only way to get my finger out was to peddle and get it out of the chain but once I peddled I felt this very sharp pain in my finger but didn’t look till I got to my friend’s house. Once I had finally looked at it, it took me a second to really realize my finger was just barely hanging on by a small piece of skin. Nicks mom then did all she could and called my mom and said “you need to take Andrew to the emergency room”. My mom rushed over to nicks house and we went to the emergency room. After the x rays were taken of my finger they were able to stitch it back together and make sure I could still have feeling in my finger and that the bone healed well.…
