Personal Narrative: The Geek Group Internship
My identity has been heavily shaped by my work experience. For a little longer than a year, I
have had an internship at a makerspace called The Geek Group. Its mission is to provide for those who
want it a means of learning and making whatever they want. The Geek Group is a non-profit
organization that aims to let people make stuff that they couldn't otherwise by providing experienced
assistance and equipment not widely available, from power tools to CNC machines. Nowhere else on
Earth can people just walk into a building and use 144 million watts of pure electricity to vaporize metal.
Their most powerful high-voltage toy uses 1/82 the amount of energy used by early space missions.
Because of both the thousands of members living
